merci & gracias

Remember?

There's a surface level
of conversation on the
edges of remembering
what's been said.

Let's move beyond that.
OK?

Let's forget the metaphors
and double entendres
spoken in spanish or french
or some other language we
can't understand, and
remember the words we
really spoke
trying to select
a memory from archives stored
while standing in a gazebo
gazing over
the minor trickle of
the creek feeding into
the river with currents,
so demonstrative
to slam our boat
into the shore --

and then, there
we would be

you and i
and just us

talking about how words
muse the fuse of distance,
not a material memory
on film to make it
real again.

Yes, there's a surface level
on the edges of remembering
when mardi gras comes
only once a year
Remember?

MenageADemideux~

Well, you don't post often -
but when you do ... it's a wonderful read.
Enjoyed your thoughts here.

Sometimes memories are all one can draw on...but thank God the mind retains them....and Mardi Gras only once a year? No, it's a state of mind that can be experienced any time one chooses...

excellent thought-provoking poetry...

Yes, the words of poetry are fully understood by the heart and once spoken, they take on life, and become life and give life, and they are freely understood by all.....
wonderful poem

What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life.

Very nice words.  Here's another one I'll save from the depths.

I experienced a wonderful mini-Mardi Gras last December in New Orleans...I would go back...to remember again!

This is wonderful!

I think we've been infiltrated by the French Foreign Legion...

They're good poets, though..
