You know? I’ve found that writing-
Has an ill effect on me.
It takes me where I should not go-
Shows things I must not see.

It brings back ghosts I’ve lain to rest,
And thoughts I’ve held in check.
And threatens all I have and am...
And bodes my life to wreck.

Strange that it can grow so real-
And so effect my mind...
To make me want to drop, and go,
And leave my life behind.

To try and live a life again-
That oft I nearly lost...
To think that I was young, back then-
I’m glad I weighed the cost.

So for my preservation-
I’ll put away my pens...
But thought I’d chance this missal-
And bid goodbye to friends.

So to you artists, one and all.
I bid a fond adieu-
And hang my weapons on the wall,
Alas, at last...I’m through.

AW I can't believe that Slinger you have too much talent and too much fun doing this.. of course writing does those things that's the beauty of the honesty of writing...I'll be looking for your next one!!

That's a real shame, John. You will be missed. Perhaps you just need to take a brief break for a bit. I hope to see you here again, soon.

you can still hang around and read, huh? I hate to hear that you will stop writing...it's always been an outlet for me...I do wish you the best and I hope you will reconsider.

No Gunslinger you must
never put up your pen
Not only will it rust
We will lose a friend

You have brought us pleasure
and we would miss it so
We think of you as a treasure
Please let the ink flow

John, I hope that this poem is just an expression of feelings and not a goodbye message. I have enjoyed every single poem of yours that I have read. Please don't leave.

Gunslinger, I haven't read many of your poems, but I hope you will consider writing again, Even if this is just for a break. This was a great poem. So often we feel boggled down, ready to toss the towel in, but to me poetry has been an inner strength.
