The Beginning
Karen Torbiak
2000

Her auburn hair is blown gently
around her face
by a caressing breeze
that kisses her body
with its warmth

She has traveled far
from the world of man
locked in their never ending
battle for that of a material world

Her spirit has called her
to this place
where magic and the mystical
still survive though kept hidden
from the eyes of men

She has prepared herself
and is dressed in the ancient color
that tells all here
she is of the old blood

Turquoise is her gown
that flows down her body
in soft waves
of the lightest material

Around her neck is a chain
of the purest white gold
that catches the sun
sending sparkles of brilliance
as she walks through the wood

Suspended on the chain
is a crystal also of turquoise
that has been pasted down
in her family to the women
from the beginning of time

This crystal has been held in wait
until one of her family was born
who had the old ways
sing in her blood

Having been raised
by her wise grandmother
she has been taught
that she might be ready
for this day
when she would be called

She is the first in her line
born in a thousand year
to bear the mark of destiny

High on her right shoulder
is the tiny shape of a perfect
red rose set in a star

Her name also reflects
who she is
and the power that is waiting
to be released

Rose Star known to man as Rose
for they have long lost
the memories from before
the time of their dusty books

She has left behind
the steel and concrete
of a man made world
and now stands in wait
for the one
she knows will prepare
her for the finale battle
to save love

Her spirit is renewed
as it draws strength
from her surroundings

She waits patiently
for all to be revealed
with senses alert
she looks around and smiles
for her soul has dreamed
of this time

A new sound fills her ears
sounding like the cascading
of a waterfall
but her heightened senses
tell her that it comes from above

Looking up she is taken aback
for even though she knows much
she is not prepared for the sight
that meets her eyes

With air flowing
over gigantic wings
creating sound
to drown out all others
descends a majestic Dragon
like nothing she could imagine

As she gazes in total awe
her eyes drink in every detail
of this ancient and wise beast

The sun reflects in brilliance
off deep golden scales
covering a body gigantic in size
being like that of a small house

Close enough for her to see now
she marvels at eyes filled
With a myriad of colors
and flashing with the knowledge
of times now lost

His head of such large proportions
as to make her shiver
with a touch of fear
seems to show the sheer joy
and passion he takes in his flight

She holds herself steady
as she prepares for him to land
right in front of her
and is surprised as he settles
with amazing gentleness
to the ground

Her senses start to tingle
as her eyes flow
with undisguised greed
over the body of this magical creature

The gasp she cannot hide
vibrates in this silent setting
as her eyes alight on he
who sits astride this golden dragon

His dark hair is cut short
and his body tanned and muscled
as one would expect of a warrior

Bare except for what appears
to be leather leggings
Rose feels a flush light her cheeks
as her eyes drink in the sight of him

He sits with quiet patience
a smile of understanding
on a face that tells her
he knows what she is thinking

Rose see that his eyes twinkle
with suppressed laughter
and finds herself relaxing
in response to eyes
that hold no threat

Something stirs within her soul
that has been long withheld
when she lived in the world of man

Dreams and visions filled with love
and desires flood into her mind
bringing memories of love
touched again and again
throughout all time

Looking deep into his eyes
her heart begins to beat
and her soul to reach out
to touch as she realizes
this is THE BEGINNING

This is an enchanting tale, worthy of a short story...do you write prose as well? I loved the attention to detail. Well done, startime!

Thank you so much. I am very glad you like this little tale. I love to weave little stories with my writing. Much love to you from me.

How I love your name. I use that word so much in many of my writings. It is so very wrapped in love. Thank you for your wonderful comment. I am still trying to figure out what prose is. I guess  with my work being so long a lot of the time it seems more like prose. I can actually do short work but I love it best when I am lost in visions like this one. Much love to you from me.

Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams. http://path2riches.com

What a wonderful tale you've woven Karen! You had me captivated from beginning to end with the incredible imagery. Yes, I believe I was right there as I was reading this ... beautifully done!

Best wishes,
/Kit
