Dream Weaver’s Redwood Love
Karen Torbiak
2000

She has waited all week for this
chance to get away from the rush
of the city and go to her favorite
place among the Giant Redwoods

Her sleep was fitful as she could not
rest her mind when all she thought
about was not sleeping in, for she
wanted to arrive before the mist was gone

She pulled her car into the parking lot
and sighed as she gazed up at the majestic
beauty of these timeless trees that fill
the ancient forest spread out forever before her

Leaning back she takes in the wonder of
watching the sunbeams bounce off droplets
of mist and dew creating the most incredible
little rainbows all along the edge of the wood

She closes her eyes for just a second and breaths
deeply of the fresh scent of wet morning mixed
with morning sunshine, all flowing into her
leaving a feeling of complete tranquillity

A sound off to her right makes her open her eyes
surprising herself as she finds herself standing
on a path before her favorite sparkling brook and
there before her are a beautiful doe and her fawn

As if unaware of her small gasp of delight and her
lingering gaze they continue drinking from the edge
of the brook that tumbles over rocks and splashes
with the morning sounds of jumping fish as they feed

Trying hard to suppress a giggle of delight she
watches with glee as the little fawn scampers
around its mother trying to draw her away from
the brook that they may play though the forest

Suddenly she becomes aware of a presence
at her side and she turns her head to fine a man
standing at her side with a smile on his face
and a twinkle in his eyes as he too watches the deer

For some unknown reason she knows this man, for she
feels in her heart he is one she has always known
as if their souls have always been united and this wonderful
picture of nature at its finest is another thing they share

He reaches out to her, taking her hand gently in his,
joining them through the sweet touch of fingertips
that feels to her more intimate than if they
were locked in the heated embrace of lovers

As she looks into dark eyes she feels a thousand lifetimes
of love shining back at her bringing with them
the knowledge that for this man she has spend her
life waiting as she learned to love all nature around her

Raising his hand to her face he gently traces eyes as her
lids close, gently; cheek down to her lips that open
on a sigh as they part as if expecting to be kissed
by the sweet tips of his fingers now tracing their softness

A sound high above draws their gaze from one another
as they look up above the loft redwoods to see flying
free, a magnificent eagle as it soars high over the canopy
of this forest whose age is long lost to the age of men

Together, in silence, they share the sheer beauty of that
which is laid out before their view and feel the hand of the
Creator as they look about them seeing His gentle,
knowing, hand in all nature that surrounds them

He leads her to sit upon soft moss beneath one of these
giant monuments and wraps her in strong arms where
she sighs with contentment as she leans her head upon
his shoulder that she may feel the gentle beat of his heart

Looking round herself she thinks how very perfect it is
to share this place of such serenity with the one
who understands her soul and feels the same love
of these glorious redwood, in all their magic, as she does

The sound of the flowing brook mixed with the fresh
scent of the wood fills her with a feeling of sweetness
that relaxes her spirit, body and mind lulling her
to sleep held safely within his loving embrace

With a start her eyes open to find herself still in her car
causing her to sigh with regret but it quickly turns to a smile
as she gives thanks to Dream Weaver for this Redwood Love,
as she watches a man walking into the forest and smiles with hope

Karen, you've woven a dream that I remember, as I stood beneath the redwoods...of lost times, far away days...and a love...

thank you!
