Shedding A Tear

A little tear meandered on my cheek today
I heard the news that children are hungry
That AIDS has taken control in sub-Saharan Africa
That innocents are being butchered in Asia

A little tear meandered on my cheek today
I heard the news that many people are poor
Because their governments have debts to pay
The dying are many no one will open for them a door

A little tear meandered on my cheek today
I heard the news that ethnic wars still rage
All over the world and the most powerful entity
Blue berets and fancy four wheel drives stand by

A little tear meandered on my cheek today
I heard a voice saying I was not dreaming
The reality of my tear frightens my conscience
Of the failure of democracy and science

A little tear meandered on my cheek today
The anger is knowing that politicians
Have not learned from the mistakes of many
Still professing that the world is a better place
What ignorance, what callousness, what treachery.

Great write, Daniel!  This whole country should open their eyes and see what is going on in the rest of the world instead of worrying about 'chads.'
Not meant to offend anyone, btw!!

'cause I am hanging on every word you say, and, even if you don't want to speak tonight, that's alright, alright with me...

Daniel J D, this is a heartbreaking poem, utterly heart wrenching. You have written this so well, I felt all that heartache, felt the feelings of futility. (Although I have hope that someday, somehow the world will awaken from it's sleep and some sense of justice, truth and light will come to enlighten us.)
Until that wondrous day, I'll keep looking for the silver lining and know that love lives.
Take care

SEA,
Thank you, your comments are appreciated.

Snowpants,
I appreciate your every word, perhaps one day things might change, I do not think it will though while weapons rage.

Marsha,
Cheers and thank you. Like you said where there is hope there is a way. I agree love is the key, but how do we educate those who hate.

This is a beautiful poem.
Everyone should listen to these words and see the pain and suffering which is happening in our world today.

Excellent

Daniel, a heart tugger you penned here and Oh how your words expressed are so rite...

It's a wonder in this day how one can go about with all this disarray yet somehow there is a hope that one day soon we'll rid of this terror and tears of joy shall replace our tears of present fears and past horrors...

My compliments to you for a strong write

JD~
You've managed many subjects
in an easy to think about structure.

'A little tear meandered on my cheek today'

I think many will join that tear.
We have to hope that things will be brighter.

Thank you, knowing that you care is very important to me.

Cocobaci,

Marge,
Thank you, the battle for many of us is not over, we have to face up to those doing wrong and tell them to back off and stop the hurt they so enjoy.
