How many times
How often
Does a lingering regret
Cling to our memory
For that chemistry
We know was felt
And was passed

If it came after marriage
Does that lessen the disappointment?
Sometimes we’re close enough to touch
When we do, the electricity is there
It’s always real

Other times – across the room
No words – just a smile
Or a glance
And we wonder
As we will wonder
All our lives

‘What if’

How much more
When it’s spoken
We’ve heard the voice
The feelings acknowledged
And unrealized.

There are places inside our souls -
that have never been touched.
There are places inside our hearts -
that need to be loved this much.

I looked into the sky for my anthem
The words and music came through
But words and music can never touch the beauty that I've seen

how often indeed...

as you venture into free verse...
I realize there will be far more stories from your pen...

Sven -
I agree - no words can adequately express regrets for such events - Thank you

Bill--I suppose there is always regret in what ifs..but to dwell on them hurts...a sad poem, my friend.

Wilfred, such a tugger of mind and heart this poem you write...

Ya know there are many a times in dark of nite a soul reflect's of that one time but it seems the eyes do close and lashes stop their blink as we enter our dreams we behold the present and tomorrows unfold...

An great write PoetFriend...

Martie-
I do not dwell there - I think you know that - but I suspect it it a very rare individual that does not 'go there' on occasion - and it is a sad place - Thank you

Paula -

Coco - - you have penned some wise and thoughtful words - thank you - (make it a poem   )

Wilfred-Sometimes the regret lingers far worse for having told someone. I think regret the other way may in some ways be easier to live with.  Take care, nice pen of words.
