I hear through her quill all that's wild and free
and afar from a time zone still
I can hear the breeze that gathers her to sleep
from the mountains of free will.

Her words as deep as an emerald's gleam
her thoughts from ancient balm.
I see the ghosts walk through her dreams
and wander on earth's palm.

Her blood still flowing cross polished stones
slowly turning them to gold.
She writes on the wind that sweeps and roams
through timeworn forests of home.

She bares Jasper tales lost from the eagle's eyes
where prayer-songs are lying unsaid.
She brings them to praise in bold open skies
with memoirs from the dead.

All the ground is haunted with sacred time
saddened and lonely and deep.
You can hear the wails of the distant cries
from out of her quill that weeps.

In her savoured soilitude
you can hear the will of God on her name
as it melts away at her rusted moods
like the sunshine follows the rain.

And I sit here in the womb of safety's keep
and afar from a time zone still
I can hear the breeze that gathers her to sleep
from the mountains of free will.

To a very special poet lady who knows exactly what I mean!!

ETHome~
You do me proud ... I will wear this dedication close to my heart
and let it serve to remind me - my mission is not yet complete.

<~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~>

From the heart of this Cherokee ... you have heard the wails
of ancestral brothers through the tears shed on the trail
Events not-of-our-making ... nonetheless they remain
as tragic circumstances bearing our country's founders names

In the salt-water pools of history, lay the tears of American Indians
On blood-stained shores of indignation, never given an ending
Thus in the quest of visions, are the legends laid at my feet to tell
I have to pass them on to others, as I know my mission well

We cannot mend - what we do not know was torn
So on the pages I must write of the stories that time has borne
When the White Buffalo calf is come, the legend has it that we
will dwell together as ONE people - what a great day that will be

The land so taken and abused - in abundant nurture will again grow
The waters pure across the mountains, surely again will flow
Creatures that were driven by the 'progress' of man
will walk the plains to multiply all across the land

Most gratifying of all - will be the peace among mankind
It will be ... as it was - when man indeed was kind

I have read many tributes and a bunch for our little "White Feather" and even written some myself for her, but this one is so her.  You have done a superb job in your beautiful words for her and I know that she will treasure them forever.  Probably one of the best if not THE best one I have read.  I applaud you for not only your verse but also for your caring nature.
