The Beauty of OLEATRIE
Karen Torbiak
2000

Her heart and soul
belongs to the forest
which has been her home
for as long
as she can remember

Having bee raised
by elves, sprites and fairies
she is well versed
in the wood lore
that blesses her life
as she cares
for the plants
and trees surrounding her

In her fifteenth year
she was set apart
as guardian of the wood
filling ancient prophecy
and she was gifted
then with blessings
at the hands of the Elders

Her name was give
by the Elders
calling her OLEATRIE
meaning Moon Tree
after the sacred tree
in the center of the forest
that casts silver beams of light
off it’s leaves
when the moon
reflects it’s fullness

Tall and straight
like the willow
walking with grace
among the trees
whose spirit sings
out to her in welcome
as leaves flutter
in quiet greeting

Her hair is auburn
kept short around a face
that shows
serene contentment
for all life of nature
around her

She is dressed as the elves
with flowing green gown
made by those who have
fostered her
all these years
treating her with
gentleness and love
from pure hearts

She smiles
as she watches
with excited joy
two new spotted fawns
frolicking on weak legs
not yet having gained
their full strength

She giggles softly
at the antics of a squirrel
trying desperately to get
his too heavy load of nut
up a tree to safety

She sits upon the bank
of a quiet flowing stream
and watches
with loving interest
the fish feeding
in this early
twilight evening

All around her seems
of peace and rest
as evening advances
and the animals come
timidly down to drink
from the cool stream

Her gentle smile
leaves her face
as she considers
the omens telling her
that the dark time
spoken of in legend
is upon the earth

Her heart weeps softly
to think of the destruction
that awaits
the very forest
where her soul
blends in love
with all around her

Wonderful Karen, in true FireQuest mode this poem is fantasy at it's finest...we shall have to do something about that book one day.

Simply wonderful and inspirational...

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.
