big old Bangor Maine up by the shack

The soft tapping rain casually streams
in tiny rivulets down the smooth glass
of my multi paned bay window which overlooks
the green sloping hills comprising my back yard, where the grass has been parted and combed
by swirling storm downdrafts

The tender jade leaves of aging oak trees
bow their heads to the onslaught of the spring deluge, gently bending thin outer branches
with watered weight until tiny droplets roll from the leaves smooth surface to drip upon
the eager ground waiting below

Dozens of flitting orange breasted robins
dart back and forth across the rain drenched lawn
searching for succulent earthworms
fleeing from their burrowed holes
filled with rainwater from the swollen
bruised clouds drifting far overhead

An aging post and beam barn is assaulted by
encroaching white birch trees which drip water
against the old gray siding, causing the gradual
formation of cone shaped stains where
the thirsty shingles have soaked up
the diverted flow of coursing rain

Standing slowly and opening the window
I draw in a deep breath of cool springtime air
which makes me feel both energized and relaxed
while gazing across the lawn, appreciating
the cleansing of the sky and earth that comes
with this gentle springtime cloudburst

A real man

kisses his children goodnight

Nothing smells so nice as the air after a rain. You can just see Mother Nature smiling as the earth cleans its face.
Beautiful picture you have created.

JBowie~
This is so full of vivid imagery.
Very nicely painted with your thoughts.

Particularly enjoyed -

This just unfolded so gracefully. When I was little? I used to "wish" myself into the illustrations of the books I'd read. That is what this reminded me of, and for that I thank you. A lovely reverie...
