(repost from Open 1)

Her life had finally settled down
And things were going fine.
If it was not so perfect
We would have seen some sort of sign.
She seemed so very happy
So how were we to know
The sadness she was feeling
If she didn't let it show?

Not once did she let on that things
In her life weren't all that grand.
If she had taken off her mask
Then we could understand.
She seemed a whole new person
So how were we to know
The sadness she was feeling
If she didn't let it show?

She sent out silent cries for help-
We knew not what they meant.
Her life had turned around and so
We thought she was content.
As I look back and think awhile
We really should have known
The sadness she was feeling
From the hints that she had shown.

Her mask is taken off now
We can finally see her face
It's been revealed much too late
For now she's in a better place.
She couldn't stay a minute longer-
That we could not know-
But we should have seen the sadness
That she had tried so hard to show.

very well done Elizabeth,
perfect use of metaphor with the mask.
its so nice to have some of your work to read, your so wonderful to always read ours.
I related to this well, been in the same situation,
we can always see more clearly in hindsight,
but unfortunatly some people are very good at hiding their pain and intent.
All we can hope is that we learn from it and that if and when we come across the same situation again we will be wiser and have better vision to see beyond the mask.
thought provoking poem,
well written.
from open 1?????

I looked into the sky for my anthem
The words and music came through
But words and music can never touch the beauty that I've seen
Looking into you

So wonderful to see something from One...from you...when you have doffed the mask...let the real come out...

you sing Elizabeth...but then, you always have...

I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.

Victoria~you're right, there are always signs, but often they're so subtle you really need to keep your hert open to find them. Thank you.

Janet~many have been in this situation...hiding their pain is an art for them, sometimes the only one they feel they have. Just a baby...lol...you're right, the day I first posted this seems so long ago. Thanks for your words.

Sunshine~thank you so much...this one brought back a lot of memories for me. Thanks again.

Elizabeth~
This is certainly a touching reminder that
sometimes people can fool us with the masks
they wear.
*Hugs* for the memories this had to stir.
