You rambled on,
so full of news about yourself,
heedless of my silence

I wished i could say more
than the occasional encouraging "hmmm"
and obliging nod

But i couldnt
and i wondered why
we still bothered to keep in touch
when we had lost each other
a long time ago

so much said in so few well chosen words kaile...
that one verse hols much impact and truth...
and pain as well....
I relate to it well ...it is the way it feels when distance fills a friendship
well done
take care

But words and music can never touch the beauty that I've seen

I think I've felt this feeling.  I'm afraid more have felt it of me.  Communication over the miles is not my strong point.  If everyone had e-mail, maybe I'd do better.  Don't know.

One thing that amazes me, this is the communication age, yet we communicate more with strangers than with family and friends.

This is so painfully honest, Kaile!  It seems sometimes people just don't get it when a friendship is over, but do, as you say, ramble on in the mistaken belief that there is still something there.  Well written.

i thank you all for reading and your replies make me see this situation in a better frame of mind...  i have been reflecting and here is a sequel...

you ramble on, i wonder sequel:
enlightenment

spending half the time
listening to your endless rants,
much like a soft-hearted lady
compelled to the chains of a persistent salesman
i used to despise us
for not having the guts to call it quits

til i suddenly understood
it takes all kinds to be a friend,

that i should be blessed and honoured
you will still want to confide in me
(after all that has changed)

ashamed and humbled,
i promise
i will ask intelligent questions
rather than the obligatory nod
the next time you speak

ask not what your friend can do for you,
ask what you can do for your friend

Kaile...

Why do we bother really? I guess the heart doesn`t always let go as it should...
Loved reading this..

Oh no, again, I hope you're not referring to our friendship. But I do know what you mean here...
It might be because they still want to maintain the friendship they have with you, and they don't know what to do but to let you know what has happened to them.
I do it a different way though, I make my friend talk so I can find out more.
