One Face-inspired by another poet's title 'The Mirror Has One Face'
Virginia Salter

The mirror has one face
yet I’d think it would have two
because of things I’ve done
and what I’ve said to you.

To prevaricate
would never be my plan
but I have, in hopes
that you might hold my hand.

Hiding all the fear
I felt inside
so you’d not run away,
but would abide.

Afraid to let you see
my every doubt
I harbored all the pain
from getting out.

When friends would inquire
my reticence
the words  I spoke
just seemed to make no sense.

They were not in accord
with what I claimed
when speaking from my heart
as I proclaimed.

To show them
a  clearer view of who I be,
seemed much easier
than the face I let you see.

I go on hoping
that you are as the mirror
and one face is all you see
when you are near.

Yet some day
I know I must come clean
if a true and honest love
is to be gleaned.

Virgina this is fantastic ...
what a cool poem..
your rhyme and cadence are perfect..
and your poetic vocabulary choices made this a most enjoyable read

I looked into the sky for my anthem
The words and music came through
But words and music can never touch the beauty that I've seen
Looking into you

Thanks, JM, you are such a lovely encourager!  I'm glad you enjoyed this one!

Glad you were here.  I posted two poems yesterday and they never were commented on.  I'm hoping it's because they hadn't been read as they had possibly moved down the board too many pages, too quickly.  Well, I'd rather that then to learn it was because they were so bad no one wanted to say anything.

Through the glass darkly?  Clouded as in an old mirror?  Part of the reflective silver coating gone?  Two-way mirror?

Well done.
