I Thought...
Virginia Salter

I thought to write a poem,
that would fill your holiday
with joy beyond that heretofore,
one that would exude the power from on high

one so profound
a life-choice would be abruptly
and emphatically made
for it had so moved you
that you could make no other decision
but for Him.

How ludicrous a thought
how inane a mind,
for scholars,
lovers of God,
His awesome omnipresence,
His profound omnipotence,
His omniscience,

have written
ages of manuscripts,
recording His promises,
divulging His power,
displaying our history
in and out of His will.

Why should I even consider
that any element of what I might
place on the page
by my hand
could ever
in any way
do more?

Could it be,
would it be possible
that He may inspire
and I may listen
well enough
to compose,
by His Spirit,
just the words
to make the difference,

to reveal
Him in just the right way
for you to see,
this time
more clearly,
than any other moment in time
and to know Him, then, more fully
this day,
this Christmas,
this holy season
now at hand?

I doubt that I can listen well enough, but He does say that in Him, all things are possible. I guess I should be open to what He might choose to do.

Virginia, it DOES matter what is said...and you have said it your way...which I applaud...

If I whisper, will you listen?...
I would rather be silent and write, than speak loudly and be bound.
