Tony passed on at about noon today, November 29, 2000.  Elizabeth, I'd like to share with you the words of my grandmother, Velma M. Carlson (1903-1996). She wrote this.. probably about 50 years ago... These would be her words for you, my dear friend...

She wrote this poem in memory of her father, who died on August 26, 1928.

AWAY

He has gone, but he's not
Forgotten
Dearest father, husband and
Friend;
Because we loved him so, we'll
Always feel
Our sorrow has just begun.
Time heals the aches and sorrows.
We really cannot see;
We miss him so, dear Daddy,
Why did it have to be?
He loved his home and children,
His friends around him, too
Far and wide, from town to town,
There were many, not a few.
Dearest father, "Rest in Peace"
Until the Judgment Day
We feel you really are not gone
You must be "just away."

I'm so sad to hear about this. He is in a better place, Liz, and you will see him again someday! I'm sure that he's looking after you, my friend. If you ever need anything, feel free to contact me. All of Passions is crying for you now.

Nan, thanks for posting this wonderful poem. It's a beautiful tribute.

Tony loved a special woman who has graced the halls of Passions, and will soon come back to grace us in the glory of the tender love shared, the sort of love and commitment that lives on....

Liz--A beautiful friend of mine passed on in February and at her funeral service this poem was given to those attending...I found it so touching, I would like to share it with you here...the author is unknown.

       Immortality

Do not stand by my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep,
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awake in the morning's hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight
I am the soft star-shine at night.
Do not stand by my grave and cry,
I am not there, I did not die.

Thank you Nan for posting your lovely special poem and Tony's picture.

My condolences, dear Liz and Family....

Petals of the White Rose

Dreaming by the morning moon
protected in a tight cocoon
so pale in the gloom
Petals of the white rose

Stretching at the sun light smiles
reflecting on its dew drop tiles
a glow that’s seen for miles
The waking of the white rose

Delicate as the summer breeze
pearly white of royal genes
a queen within the garden green
the blooming of the white rose

Soft as love you give it when
hearts should touch a frail friend
before the gift of life might end
The message of the white rose

As we cry these tender woes
and say goodbye to them we know
they'll fly wherever spirits go
On petals of a soft white rose.

Oh, Nan, thank you for letting us know, and with such a beautiful poem written by your own grandmother!

Through floods of tears, I pray for Liz, and love their whole family.  Liz and Tony had such an exceptionally strong and loving marriage.  Their faith in God, and that of their children is so strong.  They have a future and a hope, as the Bible says, in Heaven.  But the anguish here right now must be so overwhelming.  The holes in their hearts so filled with pain.

I've never met any of them, but Liz and I have "talked" back and forth via e-mail, and I feel as though I knew them, and love them all.  Very few people have a love like Liz and Tony.  It's so rare.

Thank you again, Nan.  We've all been waiting, and caring through this vigil too.

There is something you should know:
The Lord won't ever leave
His children alone
In their hour of need.

Through the tears,
Through the grief,
Please remember that
He is always there beside you.

Down on my knees,
I will continuously pray
That you will feel
The warmth of His Love.

Sometimes we don’t understand
His reasons;
Sometimes we can’t comprehend
The complexity of His Plan.

We don’t always see
The logic or the whys;
But we do need to keep in mind
That His Love is endlessly comforting.

Though you feel this sorrow;
Though it seems as if He has forsaken,
Look to the sky and see--
His arms are outstretched to you.

-kh

Elizabeth,
I know I don't know you that well, but, we are all family here.  I felt to write this for you today.  Please know that my prayers are with you and your family.

Liz, my heartfelt condolences and prayers as well to you my friend. We all grew to know and to care about him through you and you have shown more love for him than most people ever get to receive in a lifetime and I know that every word you shared is magnified in his heart and he is now holding those words with him in the hands of God in quiet peace and comfort.  God bless you and your family.

Nan,
Very nice... I have been following Liz for quite some time now. I have every poem she has ever posted here at passions and also several other sites too. I had them all on zips until last year when RJ and I finally bought a toaster. I read her work often for inspiration and it's very nice to just be able to pop in a CD instead of looking through hundreds of zips. What a story she writes and oh so well... a Mozart of poetic words flow so easily from her heart. I still have Tony's pic. on my desktop but it is now there to remind me to pray for her. We all care so much for her and resiliance seems forgotten along with our childhood, which is good as it shows our caring. Nan my thanks to you and being able to see a little of your heart. God Bless...

Dearest Elizabeth, my heartfelt sympathy to you and your children and Tony's family. HUGS

Safely Home

Speak of me when I am gone
When I no longer greet the dawn
And bid no more the night farewell
Speak of me, remember well
All the times we shared together
And cherish them, please, forever.

Grieve not long when I depart
For I’ll be still within your heart
I’ll still live in each memory
You’ll have still each thought of me
Take comfort that I’m home at last
The victory won, my labors past.

I shall be in God’s embrace
I shall see His radiant face
And I’ll ask He comfort you
Bless your days your whole life through
Dry your tears and your fears erase
Fill you full of His loving grace…

And bring you safely home to me
Where we’ll dwell with Him eternally.

Denise

Dear Liz, (((((you))))) Feeling the ache of your pain with you tonight, our dear one, and keeping you very close in prayer. I lost someone very special to me this time last year, and though no one can ever know exactly how you feel, I understand how hard it is. You are loved here, Elizabeth.

I wrote this for my sister, last December, and would like to share it with you.

"Time to Rest"

Now leave alone your pained and wearied days.
Close your eyes and rest, sweet one of mine.
Our loving touch will reach through endless ages.
Our laughter will reflect life's cherished chime.

The time for letting go, for now, is here.
Let gripping fingers slip from loving hands.
And for this moment know that I am near,
as awake and new with God, your soul expands.

So silence now aligns with singing sounds
and helpless hours, replaced with ones so blessed,
as peaceful songs of promise will ever abound.
My sister, gentle one, it's time to rest.

Love to you Liz,
Claire

Liz again my deepest condolences.

God looked around His garden
And He found an empty place
He then looked down upon this earth
And He saw your tired face
He put His arms around you
And lifted you to rest
God's garden must be beautiful
He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering
He knew you were in pain
He knew that you would never
Get well on earth again
He saw that the road was getting rough
And the hills were hard to climb
So He closed your weary eyelids
And whispered "Peace be thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you
But you didn't go alone
For part of us went with you
The day God called you home
You left us beautiful memories
Your love is still our guide
And though we cannot see you
You are always by our side
Our family chain is broken
And nothing seems the same
But as God calls us one by one
The chain will link again

God bless you and the family Liz. You remain in my thoughts and prayers.
Try to remember that he's no longer in pain, and he's in a most beautiful place. Love you Liz!!

Elizabeth, this is so clumsily written, in part, but it's written from deep within my heart.  I wanted to share it with you.

In the Healing of His Will
Virginia Salter

in the healing of His will
the very best place to stand
where He reaches out to touch you
with His tender, loving hand

His choice is truly perfect
it is right, it is sublime
right form of healing’s in His hand
and shall happen in His perfect time

one kind of healing’s meant for here
upon this earthly plain
and we’ll rejoice its coming
and never be the same

He has a perfect task
that’s been chosen for each of us
and by His power, His loving arms
we only need to trust

another form of healing’s
one for a wondrous soul
when it resides in heaven
His everlasting goal

His will, it is perfection
whether it be for here or there
He’ll heal us for this land, dear one,
or meet us in the air

A Farewell

With all my will, but much against my heart,
We two now part.
My Very Dear,
Our solace is, the sad road lies so clear.
It needs no art,
With faint, averted feet
And many a tear,
In our opposed paths to persevere.
Go thou to East, I West.
We will not say
There's any hope, it is so far away.
But, O, my Best,
When the darling of our widowhood,
The nursling grief,
Is dead,
And no dews blur our eyes
To see the peach-bloom come in evening skies,
Perchance we may,
Where now this night is day,
And even through faith of still averted feet,
Making full circle of our banishment,
Amazed meet;
The bitter journey to the bourne so sweet
Seasoning the termless feast of our content
With tears of recognition never dry.

Martie called me last night and told me about this post, and so I opened it with the whole family gathered round, including Tony's mother, who came from Brazil. She was so amazed to see the outpouring of love as I showed her all the poems that had been written for me and Tony. Thank you Nan for this beautiful post and also all of the poets who posted poems and those who responded so graciously. I am so overwhelmed that I don't know what to say. It seem words are so inadequate. It only proves once again what a wonderful group of people comprise the passions family, and all of this a reflection of Ron's character and the intimate and loving essence of this site which he has created. I thank you all and want you to know that my family is also grateful for all you've done.
With my sincerest appreciation and love

He is not gone

He is not gone – he only sleeps
He is not gone and yet we weep
We look at love  it does not die
It stays in hearts though time may fly

Does memory fade when love’s been there?
It never does – because we care
This is no thing that is discarded
He’s been a love – we’re heavy hearted

So celebrate – the pain is gone
Rejoice with him – in heaven’s dawn
He now knows peace – he’s with his maker
Just a brief parting – a brief heartbreaker

In all life’s eons – a blip in time
Then reunited – for love sublime
God’s not dumb – He has compassion
Faith in Him remains in fashion

Whatever loves we held here dear
Will still be ours I hold that clear
So now be strong to face the future
Wounded yes – but love’s the suture

Those who remain still need our strength
Though life is short – it still has length
Life is giving –not for taking
Give your heart e’en when you’re breaking

Life renews and so does love
God’s greatest gift sent from above
Strength refreshed by warm embraces
Until we visit celestial places

An Angel in the Sky

It's true that I'll still talk to you,
Though I know you can't reply,
I'll know you're up there listening,
My ANGEL in the sky.

I'll tell you all my secrets,
Just like when you were here.
I'll look to you for peace,
And always feel you near.

I'll sit beside you often,
And talk the time away,
Knowing you will always be,
A guide throughout my day.

I'll keep you very close to me,
Even though we are apart.
I'll keep you in my memory,
But, mostly in my heart.

Although I cannot see you,
And although you can't reply.
I'll know you're up there listening,
My ANGEL in the sky.

Liz...
My heart goes out to you and your family in your time of sorrow, and my endless prayers are with you.

Best

Stand Not There
       ~Ruth Grattan

Stand not by my grave and weep
Where my body’s buried deep
I am not, nor were ever there
Beneath the ground now striped and bare

Stand not by my casket closed
Head bowed down, your stance reposed
Wherein the lowly vessel lies
I am not there, mine is the skies

And stand not under falling rain
In cemetery filled with pain
Where mourners gather out of love
I am not there, I’ve rose above

Oh stand not there, and do not cry
Love of my life, I’ll tell you why
I’ve gone to greater places far
Above soft clouds and glistening star

For one day we shall meet once more
Where angels sing on golden shore
So do not stand there, do not weep
Let my body go, my memory keep

There are so many beautiful poems given here, all the more beautifull becasue they come from the hearts of those here who love you well, Liz. Let me add my own, written just before my own beloved grandfather died..

Take Heart

Take heart, ye heavy laden,
Lay down, ye weary, and rest;
Thy God hath prepared a mansion
For those His Son hath blessed.
Be comforted, ye mourners,
Be still, ye weeping, and pray;
For God above doth hear thee
He would bear thy pain today.

Rejoice, ye sad and lonely,
Be calm, ye fearful, and wait;
For God is ever with thee,
Thy sorrows to abate.

Be patient, ye who suffer,
Be faithful to the end;
Trust in God and ye shall find
He is they dearest friend.

Liz--

I just wanted you to know my heart
breaks for you this evening. Often
times over the months that I have
been a part of this "family" I have
turned and looked at your work for
wisdom and inspiration. You always
have managed to let the grace and
love of your and Tony's life fill
the walls of our "home" here at
Passions. About six years ago I lost
my Mom. I won't pretend to know what
you are going through right now, but
I would like to say my thoughts, and
prayers are with you for today and
always. may you in time find the peace
you so deserve. my uncle wrote this
for me when my Mom passed away...
I hope it helps you some.

Oct 3, 1994

Dear Amy:

Shortly after my father passed away
five years ago, I had a dream that I
was visiting with God in heaven. I
noticed that a procession of Moms and
Dads were passing before God and his
angels and taht each carried a lit
candle. I then noticed a lone figure
whose candle was unlit. This figure was
my father. I rushed to him and attempted
to light his candle but he stopped me

My dad told me that he would like to join
the other Mom's and dads but that that it
was lit, my tears kept putting it out.
-------------------------------------
Liz,
I think the same holds for Tony. But
may those tears heal your heart.

Love,
Amy
