The Keys To My Heart

When I'm alone and I'm waiting, longing for your call
I try to remember when it was that I gave you my all
I handed over my soul so quickly, I laid bare my heart
When was the time and the day when did it all start?
I'm sure in the beginning I told myself don't be a fool
I warned me don't go diving headfirst into loves pool

But it seems I wasn't listening and I jumped right in
And when loves trap opened I blithely stepped within
Was I so unwary that I just didn't see the danger ahead?
Perhaps I ignored it because I didn't care for what I said
I'm not really complaining it's just that at times like these
I almost regret handing over my hearts only set of keys

Because if you ever lost them, or let them go astray
I couldn't ever love another I couldn't let them in anyway
My heart would slam shut and turn her face to the wall
She couldn't and she wouldn't respond to another's call
You've made her your captive, she's a slave to only you
She only smiles and lives to stay with her love so true

I promised myself that I wouldn't get caught once again
Then suddenly my heart was being drenched in lovers rain
I just stood there as love poured and streamed on down
My soul just beamed and my heart lost its tired frown
I'll never understand the working of my spirit or my heart
Now is the time to remind myself that  this is just the start

Marsha,
Very moving poem, great work.

"Then suddenly my heart was being drenched in lovers rain
I just stood there as love poured and streamed on down"

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

A great piece about philophobia-fear of falling in love.

Ah, Marsha, don't try to figure it out. We keep jumping and jumping...the best we can hope for is a soft landing. You think a heart only has one set of keys? You can open them with paper clips! It's a good thing, too, because we would be lost without our resiliancy...

Excellent writing, MArsha

Daniel J D, I'm so pleased you think so, and this one isn't the work of the magic poetry fairy either. She does do a lot of mine, but she was absent yesterday, and I had to do my own writing. Thank you truly I appreciate it.

Tony, thank you very very much, I am grateful that you took the time and the trouble to reply.

Marge, I already did, in fact I think I'm going down for the third time.   Thank you I always get a smile from your replies, and I do always appreciate seeing your name, I really do.

Amy, thank you love, you are such a treasure, you really and truly are. Yes love is worth it all, and no one ever said love and life was easy did they. And would we appreciate quite so much if it was, I don't think so. I'll keep the faith, and I know you will too.

'Deer, thank you, I do thank you for the excellant I really and truly do. And as for the keys, I know that my hearts key is a very particular man shaped.

Take care

Heart keys are Everywhere, Marsha, me friend. Just when you think the ONLY ONE has been lost a new one, as if magically, appears and we go into another tailspin, so never fear one's loss, rather cherish it and what it gave you and then relish thoughts of new found love when it comes, as it always does.

Great write.

Marsha~ I LOVE this!!

"I'm not really complaining it's just that at times like these
I almost regret handing over my hearts only set of keys"

"You've made her your captive, she's a slave to only you
She only smiles and lives to stay with her love so true"

I loved these lines the most, but the entire poem is super!   -SEA

Jwesley, thank you love, but I must admit that I'm glad my man has my keys. It's just sometimes I get a little down sometimes.

You've made her your captive, she's a slave to only you.
I'm really pleased that you like it too.
