For my Three Sons

They only wanted what any little boy would desire.
To grow up with a father and a mother.
To see them together enjoying each others company.
To feel as if they were part of a happy family.
But for them this was not meant to be.
Love dwelled not in the place they so desperately wished to call home.
Yes there were feeble attempts and he seemed
to be slowly coming around.
But all those years of strife and passivity
had taken a heavy toll on her civility.
And now quite simply she didn't care any more
and hated all I stood for.
She would soon take a walk out the door.
Her pain no longer willing or able to bear
another string of disappointments to share.
She didn't count the cost for to her all hope was lost.
She no longer had the ability to consider any other possibilities.
Her house was not a home.
We were not a loving family.
No longer in her mind could she see her and me together for eternity.
She deserved not this fate.
To Love a man she would grow to hate.
Our sons were the innocent ones.
We took away their opportunity
to be part of a loving family.
And I don't blame her
I blame my hardened heart.
The heart that drove my wife away.
The heart that lost three sons that day.
And now the tragedy is revealed.
I have left three little boys with longings
that can never be fulfilled.

authors note:   My sons are men now. They are 27, 24 and 21 years old.  I am not so foolish to know that this will always affect them.   My sorrow now exceeds my foolishness.

James, Take comfort in knowing that we can build a bridge when there is love, no matter the reason or circumstance behind pain.
Continue to let them know you love them, that is all that matters now.

How very sad this is. I know the pain you feel but I have been on the other side of it having raise my daughters alone. My oldest now is 27. My friend, keep the door open for them and try in anyway you can to let them know of your love for them. Love can heal all hurts. My heart hurts for you, my friend. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful, heartfelt poem with me.

Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams. [URL=http://path2riches.com]http://path2riches.com

thank you Deb, Startime and Paula for your sweet words of encouragement...there was a time we spent lots of time together...but now not so much only because of locations...they in Calif. and Texas and me in Hawaii...but I try to go back every year at least one time...and they are always welcome here...sometimes I can still feel the alienation within their souls as a result of their experiences when they were young.  They say children that experience divorce still can have a positive experienced if the parents don't argue and fight and each parent still spend lots of time with the children...I know this was not always the case...James

Thank you Charisma and Victoria for the wonderful comments..
You know Victoria I was just thinking about that the other day...I have never had any problems with my sons...they have such warm soft spirits...and honestly I attribute much of that to their mother who is one of the sweetest woman that I have ever known...James
