Near golden sunsets

0 posted 2000-11-25 04:54 PM

I can't keep from staring at myself,
At my reflection in this empty plate.
I ain't standing up for nothing,
Hiding behind the mirrors.
I ain't standing up for no one,
Denying my own self.

I can't keep from looking out the window,
Past the oak trees in the wind.
I can't keep from longing through the window,
Towards the house upon that hill.
I hid away from that one,
The one that took me in her home.
She fed me when I was hungry,
He talked me through my troubles.
But I can't go back,
I won't go back.

And now I'm standing on the doorstep,
The front stoop of my fear's own home.
I'm standing up on something,
Of what I'm still not sure.
And my finger points toward the doorbell,
Pressing it silently.

I'm on my knees in prayer, now,
Singing devoted love.
Come back to me my friends, please,
Come back to me, I'm alone.
You can't be gone, I dreamed it,
I saw you on the front swing.
You can't be gone,
You tuck me in each night.

Where are you my Mother,
Why'd you leave my Father?
Please don't be gone.
Please, please don't be gone.
I beg God give them back to me,
I am alone without them.
I am so alone, I thought you knew.
Why, God? Why'd you take them?
They were all I had.
Why, God? Where'd you take them?
Give them back.

Even with a lot of imagination, does it make the story less true?

So many changes happen to people your age, Philip... and they aren't all 'fun'... but they all make us grow as people...

Your mom and dad are great folks - That's easy to see... and know what? They're not all that far away..

This was very touching my friend...you conveyed that "lost" feeling with grace and poignancy.  Excellent feeling, loved it.
