The Rose I Loved
(a sonnet)

A tear I weep tonight, and your still gone,
But this, that dream, that wish was long ago;
And you my love, of yesterday live on,
As I in pain, relive your heart gone cold.
Where is the flower I once held at night?
Whose face and flesh enslaved my inner soul;
You were the one I kissed by starry lights,
And lost to who and why I'll never know.
I gave to you a love that should have lived,
But now I know that flowers always die.
You promised something you could never give,
And covered it with sweet and pretty lies.
  But still the Rose I loved is in my heart,
  Forever to remain and never part.

Oh, this is really lovely. I always enjoy your poems, but I think I like this one the best, even with it's tears.

Write on!

Parker, this is sincere and sweetly sad...to have to experience both sides of love means you've lived...to experience the better part again...

and Sunny, thank you for the picture, I saved it!

I sense this may be a new Sonnet to an ongoing series?  I have always loved your "Rose" series and this piece is a perfect continueing echo of your love lost.

It is amazing that time ticks on,yet sometimes are pain remains even after so long.  But Hey!  It makes for great poetry!  ( Somebody told me that once)

A well constructed sonnet -- your IP was nearly flawless!  Well done, poet.

Bal, well I do my best but I think their are others that surely outdo me.... no names

Marina, yes you have good senses, it is. Sort of a full circle thing my writing will always come back to the Rose times for inspiration.

Tony, and thank you friend for that attempt at a nice reply... lol

ethome, thanks pal .... Nova soldier to the end..

SEA, thank you sweetie... I didn't know your name was Susan... What other secrets will you give me.

Linda, i'm very honored that you would drop in. If my IP is nearly flawless, then i'm a lucky poet cause I don't know how to read IP in a poem. I think i'll make that my next homework assignment to learn that.
Thanks again and it would be nice to see some of your work again around here.

dg, thank you sweets, just trying to draw some inspiration from old wounds.
Not that I like to emerse myself in depressing emotions.
