A Knight On A Quest

(Inspired By Paula's The Lady Of Unicorn Keep)

My story begins as most good stories always do
With the tale of love gone wrong and derring-do
There are kinghts and dragons, witches and things
I'll even throw in unicorns and some tricky kings

Long ago in a land far away, so that they can't sue
This is a story of magic with just a hint of blue
I don't want to spoil the end of this poetic rhyme
But I'll tell you in case you wonder it ends up fine

So say hello and welcome to the hero of this tale
Now tell me doesn't he look fine in his chainmail
It glints and shimmers in the light of the sunshine
See how he stands so manly, I said he looked fine

He's riding by on his trusty and rather dashing steed
He's looking for damsels or even villigers in need
You can tell he's out looking for someone to save
Ah! the story starts, that maiden has given him a wave

Now she's a fetching and a rather pretty little maid
So what does she need are there dragons who raid?
Perhaps it's a witch who's been casting some spell?
Oh! Unlucky knight she's complained about a smell

It seems she doesn't like the aroma from his horse
All horses smell of horse don't they? Well of course
Why did she stop him if she was just going to moan?
Ah! That's better she's given him her mobile phone

Seems if he'd forgotten to turn his volume up high
So he couldn't hear the maidens call help and sigh
It's okay he's now back on line for the rescue call
Now remember knight, "pride cometh before a fall"

He's convinced that he's the best of the very best
He's no weakling, a pound of beans in a string vest
How will he cope with the trial as the tale unfold?
Will he hold true or need a hand to help or hold

A little bit further, along this path he's riding on
Our knight meets the seventh son of a seventh son
This makes the boy a wizard, as I'm sure you are aware
Still I can understand our knight stopping to stare

This little wizard is doing something strange as can be
He's upside down and he's hanging from that big tree
It's normal to see a wizard rising off of the ground
But when was the last time I heard that weird sound

Ah! there's the answer, he's been banished to that tree
By the witches council for being where he shouldn't be
So knight leave him alone and go riding on your way
See how fine he looks in the saddle, see his rolling sway

Are there any adventures for our knight to find today?
What about the unicorn under the magicians sway?
The truth is our knight is having a rough time I fear
Nothing seems to happen and no adventures will appear

All the excitement seems to happen where our hero is not
This magic wood and land seems to be a very quiet spot
Maybe our knight is secretly glad that there's nowt to do
He is far more at home trying to find cinders other shoe

I'm sorry you didn't get the exciting tale I promised you
No dragons or witches or even princes bold and true
As for the kings and the wonder I did try my very best
And the unicorn I wanted to keep in my own poetry chest

You get that unicorn out of your poetry chest or I'll have to take it out of there for you. I can call the hospital and tell them you're writing about unicorns and they will take away your keyboard and moniter..huh! then where will ya be? You lead me all the way down through that and you didn't even find one good deed or masterful fight for that poor knight to partake in.....you got me any way I read the whole thing.....I called Spielburg and he said the closing was too weak so you're going to have to find that good knight a good fight...I'm trying to get your career going here girl!! Lets get them knights fighting evil and those damsels rescued......then we're going to have to try and sell the idea to the world.....work work work work so much work and so little time..sigh!!

Ethome, I tried I really and truly tried, but I think I got stuck with the laziest hero I've ever seen. He wouldn't do anything, I gave him a maiden, he just wanted her phone. I gave him a wizard and he just stared, so I wasn't going to hand over the unicorn, he'd have wasted him. Probably think he was for riding instead of granting wishes.
How about if I offer to turn the knight into King Arthur, no that wouldn't work, he was just too damm lazy. I'll have to get another knight. And they aren't 10 a penny you know, where am I going to find a knight on a night like this? that's a cue for a song.
What's a nice knight like you doing on a night like this?     Okay love you rewrite the ending, maybe you can get him to work a little harder. Or even at all. (Raised a smile though didn't it?)
And please don't take my keyboard away, I'll be lost, and I'd never get a knight to come looking for me, I know. They don't come out on house calls. Or even hospital calls. And if they did the call out charge would be horrendous.
Take care

I promise I'll make him do something next time.     Even if I have to kick him.

Mushy,
laughed out loud at the tale of woe
that poor old knight who had no go
to get out of the armour did he need a rachet
someone's been reading too much Terry Prachett.

Write on

Paula, thank you love, I really did try to make him do something, but he wasn't going to shift himself. I guess I just can't do this knight stuff, I'll leave it to you love it comes out so much the better.
He made me smile too, Oh my that poor lazy knight.

Startime, thank you this is one of my fun poems, which I try to do often. Going on the assumption that everyone enjoys a smile. Although in this ones case it is more of a saga. I really pleased you liked it.

Kethry, yes you're right, far to much. I needed to have a long laugh, and this was as long as I could make it.
Thank you, so did you laugh like a drain? I can just imagine.

Take care
