When Ike went to work this morning,
He found litter on the street.
The bus was fourteen minues late
And, as usual, no seat.

The elevator to his floor
Was crowded for the whole ride,
And an unfamiliar elbow
Probed his unprotected side.

On his desk were many papers
Filled with messages galore
From people needing something,
Who had called the night before.

And the message on his voice mail
From his secretary said
She would not be in this morning,
For her favorite cat was dead.

And he knew his wife was shopping.
Though the day had just begun.
Spending money with both hands--
This was her idea of fun.

Ike strolled over to the window,
Then decided where to go.
When they found him, he was lying
Twenty-seven floors below.

Sad story, but well written.

Now that was a bad day!  Good rhythm and flow, quite a contrast to the message of the piece.  I think that it works with this one though.
