He had heard of the lady
The Lady of Unicorns Keep
He had heard of her beauty
Of her wit and her charm

All the tales men tell
Over mugs of warm ale
Sitting lonely and cold
So far from their homes

No maiden is she
The Lady of the Keep
But a woman
Time tested and true

He had heard how she waited
Her eyes to the east
Watching always watching
But for what no one knew

And so he came to the Keep
To see for himself
His armor aglitter
Astride his dark horse

From the shadows of the forest
He waited and watched
For a glimpse of the lady
For whom they sang songs

Day after day and on into the night
He watched and he waited
Til in the moons full glow
She appeared on the wall

Her eyes to the east
The moon bathed her in glory
A woman to be won
By a warrior bold and true

He mounted his stallion
And rode out of the shadows
A Black Knight a memory
Come to claim Unicorns Keep

And she saw him
This dark knight
Advancing upon her
A vision a dream a lover perhaps

His horse pranced as he beckoned
Come down from your wall
Open the Keep
Allow me inside

Her hands on the gate
Her heart on the line
Tha Lady in the Keep
The Warrior outside

Yeah so tell us...what happens next.  Had to come in when I saw the promise of seeing a unicorn but now I want to know what the story has to unfold or is that going to be left up to our own minds wanderings?  Nice write, enjoyed much can't you tell?

Paula,
Wonderful poem, a classic so beautifully done.

"From the shadows of the forest
He waited and watched
For a glimpse of the lady"

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

Walt...we will just have to wait and see what happens now wont we...hehehe

Rich...intrigue, suspense...will she wont she? Is he her knight? Thank you

James...she is all that and more...thank you dear friend

Marsha...I'm not sure if there is...like I said was hoping for a KNIGHT...we shall see...thank you sweetie

Kethry...we can but dream of what her decision might be...thanks
