Listening to every heart

0 posted 2000-11-22 01:55 PM

He bears the drum
drumming, drumming
strumming
hearts

he’s beating the drum
drum drum

and they sway
his way
when he allays
their fears
aside

helps them hide
helps them bide
turns the tides
then away he rides

to the beat of the drum
the drumming
the strumming
he strums their hearts
they will not depart
he did not think
he would start
this stampede
wild eyed greed
to read
the strum
of the drum

it is slow, the beat
fans glow the heat
in the repeat repeat
of the drum

song of dance
beat of chance
fevered romance
took a stance
did he
with the drumming
strumming
everyone stills, listens
thrills
to the beat of his drum

doesn’t leave the heart
doesn’t quit the blood
becomes the breath
one more conquest
can’t let it rest
the drum
the beat
beat
beat

lives on in twilight
taken to new height
dreaming delight
with the
beat
beat
beat

hear the drum
he’s come
to come
and gathers in
the heart’s beat

Sunshine,
Great poem, well done. A copy to Ringo would make him proud.

Sunshine,

Nice beat here.  I just love drums . . . they sound so neat and mysterious sometimes.  Well written.

Hi Sunshine. You show a very effective employment of repetition in this piece. Very nicely written!

Okay so I love a good beat too.  Wonderfully penned and I have to admit that the thoughts in this one bring special enjoyment to me but I ain't a tellin why.   Well, maybe I will.  I see the line of beautiful verses lined up in a row waiting to be read and each and every one of them marching to their own individuality and the masses lining up as if in a trance to read them and get their daily dose of rhythmed medicine so to say.  Loved the repition in it and the flow.  Almost like a special poet's cadence for the season.  (BTW..."Little Drummer Boy" is one of my holiday favorites.)

Kari, Africa, where else! I seem to remember reading somewhere that was the begining point for everything. This really is a great poem love, I love it. It was the only musical instrument they'd let me play at school, even took my recorder away because they said it was a crime against music.
Take care

Claire, thank you for helping to beat the drum...

Mark, "Little Drummer Boy"...now I had not thought of that when I wrote this, but who does NOT like that particular song during the Christmas season...so glad to see it is a favorite of yours as well...

Marsha, Plains Indians were more on my mind than Africa, but that works for me as well...some musical pieces just need that particular pounding, don't you believe?...thank you...

Karilea--I know just what you mean..there is something about a drum that touches the core and plays it like a heart..thank you for writing it so well.

denise, thank you...

Martie...maybe with the moon beginning to fill out again, it's a good time for the beat to come back to the forefront...and straight to the heart...
