Sleeping Dog Lie

From the window she observed
The boy and his frisky hound
A child so once reserved
Loved that puppy from the pound

Inseparable from the start
They were the perfect combination
Oh, but that dog was smart!
The boys salvation

At three o’clock every afternoon
The dog would wake from sleep
With a look that said, “ be back soon!”
In the schoolyard they would meet

In darkened forest they would often play
That led to the unpredictable lake
He was repeatedly told to stay away
A rule he would often break

Then days turned to years
That boy now a man
And the old dog has deaf ears
Many moons since friendship began

Then one very black night
A storm did suddenly rage
The swimmer unable to fight
The dog dived in despite its age

From a cross she is lead away
Fighting tears with a deep sigh
She says goodbye this faithful day
For eternity, a sleeping dog will lie

This is a great piece Marina....
a wonderful tribute to anyone who's had and lost a great pet!

A big pat on the back for doing so Marina.
You're absolutely right, pets should be a family member, not just an animal.

Always knew you had a golden heart my friend.  Lovely sentiment that you have given to us and to Kit to honor such a treasured member of her family.  Hugs to you and your lovely soul.

Martinque, thank you

Sheri, thank so much.  I truly believe pets play a very important part of our families.

Vas, thank you very much.

Ethome, I am so very glad you enjoyed it!

James, thank you as always, my friend.

Mark, my sweet friend.  You know your words always mean so much to me.  I am not sure about having a heart of gold, but if it is half as lovely as yours...I would be happy.

Marina
