Fiery eyed titan, your spirit still burns,
In the beauteous fury you left behind,
Still ashes spill from your eternal urn,
The stream flows on from your oceanic mind.
Like Prometheus, wrestling with the gods,
You paid a dear price for the fire you stole,
And yet, struck deaf, you still defied the odds,
Nothing ever quelled the fire in your soul.
In majestic sound, was your myth enshrined,
Of the tortured genius, heroic,
Storming heaven, demonic and divine,
Against the waves of fate,so stoic.
This is the legacy you leave us all,
Never did one, cut down, still stand so tall.

Yes Tony it truly is an amazing story isn't it? You wrote this tribute exceptionally well just marvelous metaphors to describe this bridled genius...and then... "never did one, cut down, still stand so tall." Just excellent!!

This is marvelously well-written and reads very nicely, and I, too, love your last line especially well. This is a fitting tribute to a great man.

Tony....
This is perfection!!
I grew up cutting my teeth on classical piano, and this describes my favorite artist better than anything I've read. He was a genius, and one of the great Masters of his art. You portrayed him with dignity, and he would be quite impressed, I believe!
Great writing!!

He would have said "thank you" for seeing into his soul so well...

wow, you have chosen one hell of a difficult topic and carried it off with no little skill.

I the meaningsomes across so well in this piece and I applaude you for it.

On a critical not though, I got thrown in the last 5 lines becuse the rythm shortened, and it seemed to interrupt the flow of the poem a lot.  the line ending heroic just stopped me in my tracks... I am sure with a little work this could be improved... an extra syllable or two could lead the reader right to the end with ease.

If this seems picky it is just because it is so good to start with it would be a pity to see it not reach its fullest potential...

IMHO of course, and anyone who disagrees feel free to shoot me down!

This is an incredibly beautiful tribute to an amazing talent. Your words seem to sing with a music all their own.
Storming heaven, demonic and divine,
Wonderful and passionate. Thank you so much for this read.

Have ya ever been to one of them recitals and sometimes they just seem a tad dull? I think they could make them more interesting if the students talked a little bit more...a friend of mine gave me this book that had some great ideas, best of these was prepared speeches to introduce the piece and conductor. Like this one:

I will now play (name of composition), composed by Ludwig Van Beethoven. Beethoven is considered one of the greatest composers of all time, but ironically, Beethoven had the misfortune of becoming totally deaf at the height of his career. Although it is not a well known fact, Beethoven had a "social disease" and his deafness was attributed to this fact, which serves to illustrate that one is better off not to listen to those things.

Tony, I kinda got carried away.....your poem was quite good.....all your stuff is good....I'm not the kind that replies a whole bunch...only when I want to tease someone or really like their work...

This is a beautiful tribute to my favorite composer. Beetoven was the greatest, and your do him justice with this piece! (I sound like Shroder in "Peanuts"!)

Keep up the great work!
