If you want a glimpse into my soul,
read the words that I write.
See what's going on inside of my head,
through every day and each night.

When you have finished reading my words,
tell me- what is it that you see?
Do you see the meaning behind the words
of the poet that lies within  me?

Have you seen inside of my heart,
shared my struggles, and fears?
Have you silently wept with me
as my words have shown you my tears?

If you have ever read my words
Did I make you see?
Did you see this person I am-
this poet that I call me?

This is wonderful. Can we really see who a person is by the verse they write? The words they use? Can we know who they are? Trust them? Love them? You're poem evokes many feelings and raises many questions and that's what poetry does. I do see a bit of you - maybe not all yet, but a bit.

PDV, Marina, thanks so much. I think when one reads a poets words after a while they start to see a bit about the person who is writing them.  You learn a bit about their feelings, their lives, their hearts.  You see little glimpses into that person.  Thanks again.

I like the way you ponder these questions, I think you have it right when you say we see glimpses! Well done!

A true artist/poet spreads wit, cheer, sagacious advice, mixed with that part of the soul from whose pen has been dipped into his/her own blood, the love of writing is just that...

Eagle One, thank you sir, and yes, I do truly think we see these lttle glimpses of people.

Sunshine, so right you are.  As poets/artists we share more of ourselves with the world
than we might even realize at times.   Thanks for stopping in sweet lady.  *s*

It is amazing how you can see into the heart and soul of the poet by reading their pieces. Most of the people here have never met, but we know each other just as well as the people in our "real lives" (if not better). Poetry is how we know each other, and how we get to know ourselves. You describe it well.

Gentle Spirit,

Very well said.  This is true for those who are brave enough to write from their heart . . . no matter the cost . . .

Beautiful poem.  I've always said poetry for me tis my heart's philosophy that i share with others and indeed I think truley our identities may be more discerned sometimes in poetry than in the way we present ourselves in our real lives, there's oft tension in real life, much freedom in poetry.  Enjoyed this poem much.

To know the meaning of a gentle spirit,
Read the emotions on each line,
Lightly placed and softly fit,
Read what is on the heart and mind.

You maybe able to cover up our feelings in your smile and voice, but not in your poem.
The words you pen show your heart and how you love your fellow man. Yes we see more in written words than in spoken ones.

Given enough time and enough works of a poet, I think we all begin to uncover a touch of each poet, but we also know hopefully that only with real contact can we really begin to find the depth of a person.  Your verse leaves much to think about and it was exquisitely penned from your wonderful talent and muse.  Loved not only the way this one flowed but the depth and meaning behind it.  Please don't ever stop writing for us.

truly overwhelmed at this.  Thank you.

inot, agreed, one can not hide the feelings when written in verse.  Thank you so much.  *s*

Mark, again, thank you for such kindness in the words you leave.  I consider it an honor to
be here at Passions, and accepted by my fellow outstanding poets.

Deb, words when they come from the heart are always the best kind.  Thanks!

i read and i liked and i agree with you...sometimes i am hesitant to post a poem here because it is so personal and reveals so much of myself and i am apprehensive as to how people will react....

Kaile, I do understand that feeling.  Over the past year I have written many things that were very personal to me for many reasons, but I did post alot of them too.
Not only do people read your words and begin to know you, but also help to support you as friends.  Best wishes, and thanks.
