The settings of these cold days come
That holidays bring with them
Strumming of the mindless glum
Not wanting to foresee it

Each click I hear as seconds tick
Reminds me of it’s nearing
These thoughts of which my mind does stick
The worst of which I’m fearing

A holiday season spent alone
Neither wanting nor receiving
The sense that I have long since grown
And want for time of leaving

And yet there centers in this path
The need to let it pass
What kind of memories would I leave
For those whom I’ve left back

I do not contemplate this deed
Just stress that it’s the feeling
No longer do I want this need
To myself I am deceiving

I look onto this holiday
And hold my head up smiling
Ignoring all these words I’ve said
The beast in me defying

The darkened part this season brings
I realize each day
That keeping on this road I’m on
Will help me find my way

To not share that I feel inside
Let happiness prevail
Confine the emptiness I find
Shield from this world detail

Another year I’ve held up well
Kept from the children bleeding
Passed this test and will not tell
Inside I am still grieving
For togetherness

So well wrought, Spiked. I believe I know just what you're saying, and I admire your eloquence in saying it. I've been thinking on a poem of this very nature, just don't know where to start. VERY good writing, thank you ~

Hey...you are welcome, Rich, to spend the holidays with us...heh heh.  Wouldn't exactly call it "heart-warming" but it is definitely distracting!

You tugged the heart strings with this one...Hugs to you...and I'm here with an ear should ya need it.

I thank the three of you very much Rainy, Paula and Serenity. More to do with the holiday feeling than actually being alone. the first holidays are always the worst ones and I'll be fine just thought I'd capture that feeling as they approach. Not meant to take away from this beautiful time of the year. Thanks
Rich

Spiked, this is  truly a touching write...
It leaves me in the reflection of my own hidden tears....

I don't have words to reply but I do wish to convey my respect for such an endearing write...

HEY---the offer stands.

You KNOW that, though...Merry Christmas, m'luv, and a Ho...Ho...Ho?  and an evil elvish grin, too...*winks* from the naughty elves...
