There you were,
When I tured around,
To the sound of a joking voice.
Handing a cute line,
Over my amazement,
At seeing the face of an old friend.
Talking with voices,
Questioning with eyes,
Wondering if all was forgiven,
For a misguided decision long ago.
It was easy in the past,
To have you close,
And push you away at will,
Knowing you would be respectful,
And back off when subtly told to.
Now I must be regretting it.
Because I searched your eyes,
Time after time,
For some recognition,
Of what an odd arrangement,
We once had.
Standing there trying,
To project a kindness,
And an unspoken request,
To rekindle a bond,
Of strong friendship,
I wondered if anyone else,
Seen it between us.
There it was,
Hanging in the air,
And all it would take is a call,
To say that we're still friends.
Somehow I feel,
I have to be the first,
To take that step.
Tomorrow your phone,
Just might be ringing,
Dear friend.
Its funny how I never loved you,
But there is still,
That lingering question,
About the bond that we shared,
And that I felt so tangibly,
The other night,
When you said hello,
And I hugged you,
Like I'd never lost track of you.
The other night,
When our eyes kept meeting,
And locking,
Like we understood,
There was some strong tie,
That never loosened,
With the distance
And time away.
What are we,
If not old loves?
But then..
I must have forgotten until now,
You are the one,
Who fell in love,
And accepted me,
Even though I couldn't love you back.
That
Must be why,
Even now,
You are special to me.

My name isn't Baby, and I don't want to cyber.

this is so well written...I feel like I was  across the room watching you two ..
and you have so well described how it is when we run into someone who was once a focal part of our life..the awkwardness and the familiarity...the chemistry...
great write here... made for a most enjoyable read
take care

Temptress~
Now you've been touched by a very gentle muse.
This is so softly said -
I've enjoyed it so much.

This is just lovely, sweet lady.

This is wonderful Temptress!
You've expressed this so perfectly .....
You pulled me right in and made me feel as though I were the friend. (yes, I know, I'm not male) hehe
Anyway....I so much enjoyed reading this piece!
Very well done

Thanks for reading everyone. This was one of those odd experiences I had to get written down before the inspiration left.  I'm glad you all enjoyed it, and also thankful to be touched by something soft for once.   After talking to another male friend about this, I understand, and realize a few more things than I did about this encounter.   Once again, thank you all!

Temptress, one of the things that makes this poem so special is the touch of humanity and sincerity you have given it. It doesn't read like a manufactured poem...more like the recounting of a fond and perhaps bittersweet memory. It's very beautiful....

Beautiful. The old love has such a nostalgia that it can overwhelm. Great stuff.

Gentle, soft, tender render of a life experience that has stayed so precious to you....even without the love it still motivated your heart to compassionate  considerate and memorable feelings and I can understand .....very nice indeed!   ethome

well here I am, slightly off base tonight, been that way for most of the holiday period.  hope you will forgive me.  this piece was great, it had that something more mentioned in a previous response.  I liked those sections near the end.  wonderful way to weave it together and tie it off at the end, yet there is a front section that first sparks it for me and I'd like to share it.

perhaps it's because I've had an odd arrangement a time or two in my life that this here speaks a little more deeply and intruiges the reader to find out what this arrangement is.  well written my dear dreamer.  well written indeed.  *filed*

Oh my gosh, when I saw your name I just had to read your poem and respond. You see, I have a poem called the Temptress that I was planning to post. You have a loving heart whereas I have her without one so I will keep it locked safely away. *giggling* I loved your poem, you are incredibly talented. Thank you so much for the read.

Love I leave with you my friend whether it be in your life or of yet the essense of your dreams. [URL=http://path2riches.com]http://path2riches.com
