Greenness of the Earth

Step light upon the greenness of the earth
On grass and field and velvet forest fern
For these are precious gifts of endless worth
Bestowed upon us, which we did not earn

Observe the gliding wing on clouds of white
Draw circles of contentment in the sky
Memorize the elegance of flight
And photograph the eagle with your eye

Touch gentle on the petal of a rose
Stroke the powdered wing of butterfly
Capturing its iridescent glows
Not with the hand , but with the wanting eye

Listen well the music in the night
The whistling call that beckons in the dark
As whip-poor-will sings out with all its might
From blackening woods, outshines the meadowlark

Bathe your feet in waters of the stream
Let its movement flow right through your veins
Just as it gushes through the planet’s seams
Fresh and swollen from the spring time rains

Let earth and stream and fragrant scent of flower
All living things of true unequaled worth
Caress your soul with joy of nature’s power
Step light upon the greenness of the earth

Lizzie, this is enchanting in both its exceptionally beautiful imagery and its
wisdom in verse...
everything is so fragile in its grace ...
so much to be taken it and appreciated and treated with respect.

"Touch gentle on the petal of a rose

Capturing its iridescent glows
Not with the hand , but with the wanting eye"

what a beautiful verse this is ...
wonderful writing gifted poet...as always ...
take care of you for us
love to ya

This is absolutely enchanting!!!  May I please keep a copy in my favorites of others and also show to my friends?  Everything the others have said, so say I.  I love it all, but when you spoke of feet in a stream, that really wooed me!  My feet trouble me so often and to think of such as you wrote is soothing, very soothing.

Liz, this is a beautiful reminder of the gifts that God gave us through His beautiful earth. We should be truely thankful for these things, especally this time of year. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you all for your very kind remarks. My computer has been down and I'm using an archaic monster which takes about 15 minutes to open each post, so I haven't been around as much. But I do so appreciate your reading and responding to my poem

Though I use in my writing at times, rhyming has never been my favorite part of poetry, but the way you write it the rhyme seems almost incidental, a "dotting of the I's, crossing of the "t's", so to speak, and definitely makes the read a better experience.

thanks for the things you do...Liz.

Oh Elizabeth I love your work so much...good God I love it! I love this one even more than the last one which was so excellent..your appreciation for the gift of life and the connection to the wonders of creation are the most superb I've ever read...I can't repeat any lines because I'd just have to rewrite the whole poem...this kind of respect that you have is worth more than all the wealth in the world......God bless you and I look forward to the next...ethome

Though I have been gone for awhile the nice thing is that I have been able to mark ALL of your poetry for my library so I know that I will not miss any of them.  Lovely and mesmerizing piece from you my friend and so nice to see you still penning with the golden quill you have at your fingertips.

jwesley, THat is certainly one of the nicest compliments my poetry has received (that the rhyming seems incidental). THank you for your kind words

ethome, I don't know what to say to you. You extend such high praise for others poetry, and then you produce a memorable piece for your 2000th post. YOU are the great poet, my dear. But I thank you anyway for always reading and commenting

Mark, I, too, have not spent much time on the forum since my computer is down. I thank you for you comments, which are always so kind

Liz
