As a child I took it all for granted
That mom’s and dad’s simply “were”
By their story I became enchanted
The beginning of him and her

I would love to have been there
Him looking just like James Dean
Her shining like an answered prayer
The most perfect couple I've ever seen

The blind date set up by a friend
A convertible and a starry night
When the date came to an end
They knew it was completely right

His question answered by her sigh
The exchange of golden rings
Vowing to be as one until they die
No matter what the future brings

Names changed to Mom and Dad
Five children they added to their home
Memories formed in the years they’ve had
They agree the years have flown

They made that vow 45 years ago today
To live side by side in this mortal life
Though it wasn't easy along the way
I still pronounce them Husband and Wife

~I Love You Mom & Dad~
~Congratulations~

This is wonderful; it's so great when you have such an example as your own parents before you...I know mine have been together for 52 years and they are so good together

They have much to be proud of, including a wonderfully talented daughter!!!

Butterflies,
What imagination and wonderful expression of love for your parents. My parents were married for 57 years, the joy of celebrating their 50th anniversary was an experience i'll never forget, all their children, grand children and 3 great grand children were present. You must be so proud of them. This one is for the library also.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

BDC, this is indeed a wonderful and beautiful tribute to your parents. So wonderful when love lasts, and so tenderly and lovingly written. Wonderful write from you, amazingly good.
(Sorry I haven't got any new superlatives, Ethome has nicked all the good one's and won't let me have them back. I think he's holding them out for ransom   )
Lovely work

ButterfliesDC~
This is such a lovely gifting for your parents.

May I add this wish -

Spirits Joined

To find the soul-mate who
will waltz through life with you -
is such a wordly treasure
that only the heart can measure

For in the love you found as two
entered in a spirit of one
May all the joy contained within
greet you on the rising sun

Through this life you walk in love
giving gentle thanks to Him above
Holding hands through thick and thin
Knowing the oneness that dwells within

*Happy Anniversary !

Holly-
Happy Anniversary to your parents! Seems
to me they have raised a very wonderful
and loving daughter. I am sure they are
as proud of you as they are of their
marriage! My parents were married 23 years
before Mom passed away...and it IS a
wonderful thing to see marriage last when
in a society so many do not. Great write.
Take care.
Love ya,

WOW, talk about being late.  My apologies to you and to your wonderful parents.  This was just beautiful my friend and judging from the butterfly that they brought into the world, I would say that 45 years of staying happy and in love is not the only thing they did right.  Your words are as lovely as your heart my friend.

Oh, my Butterfly,
When you first posted this, I couldn't thank you.  Now I can and want you to know this was a very special gift.  Thank you Marge, for your verse and all of the other poets for their wonderful words.  It has not always been easy these 45 years, but some how, we stuck with it.  Love changes over the years and becomes respect.
Thank you Butterflies and love and hugs,  ME
