Of all the halls that
Peddled gin
It was my joint
She came
Dancing in

Her dress was black
As if to mourn
The passing of
A lover's scorn

In solitude of
my table there
I stood up
And pulled out
A chair

The common
Pleasantries
Exchanged she
Told me of
Her spouse estranged

And then something
Of indemnity
Doubled down
She wanted free

She gave me photos
Of the louse
That left her
Mortgage bound
With house

His business partner's
Gambling debts
Had left her
Broke and
In regret

She had five hundred
Dollars still
A pair of legs
And lips to thrill

My cigarette was burning low
My drink was almost gone
And so
I took her case on
Pro-bono

And there I was
Back at my flat
Broke and tired
I hung my hat

Just as I sat there
In a stew
About to scrape
Gum from my shoe

There was a ring
And not the phone
A golden band
a great big stone

She'd stuck it in the
Envelope
now this was
Her final hope

I took the band
And and put it in
An old brown flask
Of bathtub gin

And not too soon
Because my door
Came crashing down
It hit the floor

I recognized
the eerie tune
It was Six String Larry
The Shylock's goon

He carried a Thompson
In in a guitar case
had  acne scars
All over his face

He whistled Dixie
To all his marks
Then left them strangled
In the dark

A guitar string
Around their neck
Time to cash in
My rain check

Under my desk
A thirty-eight
Had helped me win
A few debates

I thought I'd get
Some questions first
Before the answers
Were coerced

He'd seen me at
The hall with Babe
And wondered if
She knew of Gabe's

Whereabouts
He had to find him
Or he was going
To break my hind-limb

I told him that
She didn't know
She'd hired me
To find the dough

Not good enough
He pulled his heater
But I sent him
To Saint Peter

you know how to whistle... just pucker up and blow

thankyou Charisma and Daniel

and now let me just say this:

My name is new
that much is true
and this poem
may appear my start
but something
that you do not know
I may be more local
to these parts
So try to guess
guess if you can
this gumshoe is
another man!!

this kittycat thinks this is kewl!
detective work like back in school~!
i once was in a feline group
taught by the dude who knew the scoop
to get out litter from the mess
and find out answers, second guess!

i'll watch for more - i'll read the clues!
perhaps i'll solve and break the news!
it's purrrrfectly like sherlock holmes -
i'll dig through hints with fine tooth combs!

mmmeeeeeooooowwww

beware pandora's box...
