I have the power within my grasp
to cause hardened men to weep
I have the power with just one word
to put a wakeful child to sleep

With that power you can learn
to treat each other with honesty
To speak to one another
with candor and sincerity

Life and love and death and birth
are foreshadowed with this pen
to tell a tale of war’s great woes
as a lesson to angry young men

Listen carefully to the plea I send
heed now, the wisdom I impart
A lesson, my friends on war you see
It won’t have to end if it does not start.

Take time to listen to your fellow man
with your heart not just your ears
And you will live in peaceful times
knowing nothing of hatred’s fears

But the power is only transient
and fades with the turn of a page
It’s name is reminiscent of
an older, gentler age

I am Poet, writer of verse
Troubadour of each life’s quest
I live upon this earthly plain
seeking solutions for each test

I ask not for your words of praise
nor need your affirmation
I only seek to share the power
of a poet’s contemplation

nor need your affirmation

I don't care if you didn't ask you're going to get it anyway.
Excellent poem
Could you send this poem to Florida. I think they need some help!

Powerful indeed!!!  If more such words were penned; wouldn't life be a celebration indeed???

that is some strength you show in this, as in all your poetry. *s

~Wynter

now do you think  besides  sharing your words..you can  dole out some of that power too?

Words of wisdom to hold and use...and
remind.  We can either heal...or we can
hurt..the choice is up to us and only we can
stop the pain we may cause by never starting
it to begin with...simple kindness is more
powerful than careless thought...Excellent
writing~

Yes, deVine, the pen wields mighty words, but now without, and which first and foremost, should always be thought through with both the mind and heart...

and isn't it a lovely country where Forums like this exist...for all...

A poet's contemplation does indeed pack a potent and unwieldy punch... and yours shines among the many..

Poetdevine,
A wonderful and powerful poem, bouncing along with energy of the poet's mind. A great write, fully enjoyed.

And you do share that power of contemplation very well...this is erie in likeness to some of the lines in my post that's out there right now called Grandpa...though the context is different some of the ideas are so similiar......this is a very open minded positive write and it exudes the strength you write about.....ethome
