To Keep up the Good Search

To begin on white
with some lopsided twisted thought
a calypso from the past perhaps
or the rock where I stubbed my toe
it is all like chicken scratches
numbering my thoughts click click
faster now they come like black birds
winged and mighty and dark dark

they sing across my la la la
in sharps that pierce my naked longing
and they discord too
rumble like the far left of piano
thunder trouble sad sound
and I listen as if to pick out a melody
that would explain

but I cannot tell you of auburn hair
or of scarlet wishes
cannot march you into my cadence
so you can keep time
how can you keep time
I have been trying but my poem slips
and I am off in circles again
falling into rivers
even the waterfall hears me coming
and winks with sunlight for the joy
of tossing me about

Gentle is the wander when I float
on wings of garden roses
and prick my skin to feel the sun
fill up all my surfaces with surprise

and then today I lost my count
and I whispered to the soft air
where where is my lost thought
and it lay me down again
on this white page where I have clicked
my life and said
someday you will see
but for now you must
keep up the good search.

Yes, we must all keep up the good search...

I just love it, Martie, the way your mind works,,

cannot march you into my cadence
so you can keep time

How wonderful is that?????

Speechless I am - filled with awe and wonder -
When my poems won't fall in place,
When the words won't come,
When words and phrases go to the shelf awaiting the whim of my muse,
I've always been unable to put it into words.
At least nothing remotely poetical; but you,
miraclous you, do it with such beauty and grace - I'm speechless - unable to find adequate laudatory words for your talent.
I can only hope you find in this plethora of words some semblance of my appreciation for your talent.

well, the good search yielded this fantastic piece that simply talked my talk...although I might never walk your walk, Martie, I shall indeed enjoy traipsing into my own Private Library to read and re-read this treasure for as long as Passions exists...

uh, Ron?  If EVER you decide to shut the doors, let me know so I can print this keeper for a hard copy!

Martie, thanks!

Martie~
I felt you reaching ...
and you found the place to take it.

Just so very, very unique is your talent.
Have I said that before ?
Well ... I would suspect that I'll say it again and again
as each thought that you maintain is gifted
to us in your writing.

'I am off in circles again
falling into rivers

and winks with sunlight for the joy
of tossing me about'

How much I enjoy your circles.

You did well with this one!  I know you put a lot into it, it reads deeper with each reading.

What is that you express in your eyes? It seems to me more than all the words I have read in my life.
