This is a story bout a grandpa and grandson,
I walked proud beside him when I was young.
I'd try to act older than a little kid
walkin and talkin just like he did.

Well I never asked for anything more than his love
and he'd put his arm around me and call me Bub.
Under blue skies where white clouds sailed
he'd spin silk and magic into his tales.

We had fishin poles, secret holes and worms in pails
we scout old wood roads huntin whitetail.
I heard campfire stories and I learned the truth
about the great war that took Grandpa's youth.

He'd say...remember son....
There's always someone out there givin out advice
take care how you listen they might not have it right.
And all the mighty leaders tellin poeple what to do
are visions from the past where hell was set to rule
So pray for the time man won't kill his fellow man
keep the faith for peace and stay close to the land.

And I'd sit there beaming by the campfire flame
while an old hoot owl was callin out his name.
And I'd think to myself we'll be doin this forever
cause my Grandpa fought to make the world better.

We strolled through Autumn leaves ans Summer grass
and we talked of older times fillin out his past.
We'd hike in the rain and watch shiny Otters playin
with every day the same like forever was there waitin.

When the golden years ended the golden bowl collapsed,
I was never really ready and the hurt knocked me flat.
And in the grief and pain I thought that I'd die
but the memory of his tender words kept my soul alive.

There's always someone out there giving out advice
take care how you listen they might not have it right.
And all the mighty leaders tellin people what to do
are visions from the past where hell was set to rule.
So pray for the time man won't kill his fellow man,
keep the faith for peace and stay close to the land.

ethome--this is a true and tenderly written poem...if this is about you..I think your grandpa would be proud of who you have become, and what he meant to you.

Oh Ethome...this brought a flow of
tears...it brought back the memories of my
own grandpa and the visions that I have of
my son with my father...such beautifully
woven thoughts...I'm sending this one on to
my dad...I know it will touch his heart as
it did mine.  Thank you so much for sharing
your gift of weave~

Ethome, I've been skimming past this because I wanted time to really enjoy it. And that's not to say the other poems I've replied to today I haven't enjoyed because I have, but I wanted to give this my full attention. This is a wonderful amazing piece of writing from you. Absolutely wonderful, so well drawn as a picture, so tender in it's story. I love this one as I've said before you just get better and better.
Take care

Ethome, thank you. I didn't have my grandpa around a lot...he died when I was only eight. But what time I did spend with him in his garage still brings a deep sense of love and a bond that parents never have with their kids...it goes a little beyond magic, I believe...

I really liked this!

Ethome,
Well, what can I say. This has taken me and thrown me back in my seat. There is so much to learn from this masterpiece, I have tried for years to write something similar, and here youcome along and deliver it in perfection. Awesome, it is in my library now under lock and key.

Respond to my call and let the waves of my heart fill your life with the wonders of love

The repetition got me. (sob) I got through it OK the first time, but when you started quoting again your Granddaddy's wisdom... I just couldn't keep it in.  We're trying to keep the faith.  God Bless, Bob <><

I sometimes wonder if there are still some Grandpas who spend enjoyable time in nature with their grandchildren.  This is so precious, and brings to light the great value of time and waxed wisdom in sincere love.

I really loved this Ethome, my grandfather was the single most imoportant person in my life and Ihave missed him more than I can say the last 20 years. Mine called me Pumpkin, and he called my oldest daughter, his first great grandchild, Pumpkinn Seed
He was an extraordinary man as I am sure yours was, thanks for sharing this wonderfully touching poem
