I can only imagine what y'll are thinking when y'll saw the title but trust me, I know what I'm doing cause my style's off the wall!

Dear Nate,

I hope that you're feeling great
and continuing to strive and elevate.
I'm doing fine
and proceeding through time.
Thanks for sending me,
that letter last week,
and thanks for sending me,
a little something for my comissary.
In another month, I shall be out on parole,
so that I can finally, get out this hole.
You know Nate, being incarcerated in the state pen,
makes me realize, who's my true friends
because, you're the only one,
that sent something to me,
out of all my so-called homeys.
Man, I can't wait till I get out here
because, the food here, is terrible
and the sanitation, is unbearable
as I seem to be the only inmate,
with some sort of daily hygiene,
as the rest of my inmates,
go to bed filthy and unclean.
I've stopped smoking cigarettes
as I've been sober for two years now,
and that makes me very proud.
I'm trying my best to stay out of trouble
because, I don't wanna end up killing again,
and get my time increased or doubled.
Man, I really regret my crimes
and if I could turn back the hands of time,
killing people, would never flood my mind.
Unfortunately, I can't control the time
and since I've comitted the crime,
I'll be a man and pay the crime.
I promise that once I get out,
I'm gonna make a change in my life,
and ressurrect my soul on the path of right
because when it's my turn to leave,
I wanna leave with Christ.
Hopefully, I shall se you soon,
like in the month of June,
so stay positive, clean,
and continue to strive, for your dreams.

Sincerely,
           Anthony

Your title did grab me!

You've done an excellent job of character description in this........I enjoyed it.

Nate sad to say I have a brother in jail right now due to traffic stuff he didn't take care of and I'm glad you wrote from the perspective that someone can come out of prison with a positive attitude because many go the other way....James

Thank you for your wonderful comments, ethome.
Hey Jimmy, you always seem to find something out of what I write cause I never meant for this piece to contain a message....I guess the message just came by accident...anyways thanks for the lovely message!

Nate....
The title hooked me, but the poem kept me reading! This was a great read...especially to anyone who has been, has had, or has friends in prison. A lot of people do change there, even inside a system as screwed up as the criminal justice system. You did a wonderful job here!!
