The Joke’s On U.S.

Is God a standup comic,
does he write his own jokes?
His humor must lean toward dry
poking fun at us American folks.

We sure stand out these days
a cliché of the proverbial thumb
for such a powerful nation
we’ve set the standards for dumb.

Maybe it’s just that old adage
‘bout being overconfident
that’s set the stage for slapstick
impossible to circumvent.

As other nations shake their heads
reading of our latest escapades
we still don’t have a president
even as the cigar toting one fades.

Maybe we’re the ones to blame
lost control of the company store,
we’ve let our archaic systems
bring our faults to the fore.

Can’t run a country by standing by
leaving decisions to politicians
with nothing but hidden agendas
in their thinly veiled ambitions.

really nice job conveying your thoughts.  I agree completely.  Extremely sad, what we've come to.

To capture and live a moment is truly living

Democracy - a poor system at best.  Yet, it is the best on this earth ... thank God ... and many have died to make it so.  While they "laugh" at U.S. out loud, inside they wish they could live here and enjoy our living joke.

Isn't it nice we can laugh at ourselves and our country?  While not all like other citizens laughing at our country, we all have the constitutional right to do so. And I have and will risk my life for your right to do so.

While all you say about the politicos is true and regrettable - I must say - I don't think a republic such as ours could be formed without much of the negative aspects we suffer along with the good. Could I achieve change - everyone would vote on voting machines - and ballots would become history - The electoral college system modified to more accurately reflect the popular vote - and last but not least we'd have more than two parties getting a signoficant portion of the vote.

A wonderful witty write Corinne - take a bow ~S~

Very well done (hehe) still sitting here chuckling, though the truth of it this is far from funny.
Some very good points in this.

With the word, I am mighty, with the pen I am free..

thank you for making me smile about the absurd...
your so right ...very cool poem C,
isnt it amazing how each city can always find the money to build new football stadiums and buy big name teams and atheletes
but the same cant ever find the funds to feed the homeless, pay the police, firemen, or teachers better....or get our election process updated to this century..(or even last century)
makes ya wonder dont it...
great satirical wrote C,
