Chartreuse Chanteuse
~*Marge Tindal*~

Silky, sultry croon of tune
She belts the favorites out
Sequined siren of the song
Slow and low - blues no doubt
Skylark on note takes flight
Across the airways of the night
Slowly she sings as circles ring
cascading o'er the smoke-filled scene
Ivory keys soulfully tarry
as velvet voice is gently carried
over the radio - over the sea
Men in trenches catch the spark
Chartreuse chanteuse sings Skylark
Such soft gentle sighs - they pause to visualize
the siren of the night that brings
Skylark home - home again

Beautiful poem! Can picture her and hear her very clearly through your words.

PoeMinister~
Oh, hon ... these songstresses of their time could send the
warmth of loved ones at home, to our men across the sea.
I am an ardent admirer of the chanteuses of the 40's era.
Thank you for your reply.

Paula~
Thank you.
Sunny would probably enjoy the siren songs
of the chanteuses.
They clearly could sing the messages of home and loved ones.

This is magic....and the song immediately flew into my head, just as you knew it would!

You brought back warm and cruel memories here.  How VERY important those songs were to those of us in the 'Nam.  If only we had been thought of in those terms, by our countrymen, instead of despised.

Live for love. Without love, you don't live.

Karilea~
I do know - and that's how it came -
singing it's way into this piece.
So pleased to know you enjoyed.

JanetMarie~
Thank ya', gal !
The songs of the war era just keep playing in my mind.
Those were some fantastic ladies with those wonderful ladies.

InterLoper~
The songs were sung in the hearts of LOTS of us fellow Americans.
Believe me when I say that mine has always sung with praise for ALL who served.

Vicky~
Now why would I just KNOW that you'd have
a set of these wonderful tunes ?

I could listen to them all through the night.
And if you've got a rendition of this hauntingly lovely Skylark ...
you are living right !

Is it no wonder that our service pilots
named many of their aircraft
after this lovely melody ?

The tiniest bird with the loveliest song -
certainly was symbolic for those lovely voices
of the chantreuses.

So glad to have you tuned in with this one.
