How could I have known
That good-bye meant forever
An eternal parting of the souls
The painful singeing of the delicate
Fibers of my heart
A word branded on my being
With the hot iron of destiny
So unsuspected
Unpredicted

I knew our love was delicate
Hanging by a star’s thread
Dangling from a translucent beam of light
Not yet strong enough to pierce the night
With it’s own glow

But still it existed
It was alive and visible
Though drifting without a sail
Like a raft afloat , never quite reaching shore

Yet I waited for you
I waited in limbo
Even after I heard the last word from your lips
The word good-bye, misunderstood
Misinterpreted,
Too devastating to be real
And so I kept on waiting

I thought you meant,
I’ll see you later
I thought you meant, I’ll be back again
You’ll see my face in the glow of another dawn
You’ll hear my voice in the echoes of your mind
Our lips will come to touch again
Some night beneath God’s canopy of little star’s

I’ll reach for you in the shadows of tomorrow’s wanting
I’ll look once more into the depth of your thought
And we’ll ride again on the
Delight of our togetherness

I didn’t understand the meaning of goodbye
I didn’t know it meant forever

Oh Elizabeth...

there is no good in some farewells...

just the memory of loveworn spells...

Your words never fail to touch me, Liz. And this one especially at this time. Life is so precious and short - let's have fewer goodbyes..let's say hello more often!

Elizabeth'
Melancholia shows in the shadows of your mind. And forever is a hulla hoop of a kind.
Circling the essence of your thoughts what ever you have wrought. But it does make for lovely poetry. Love Sy

Oh, Liz, this is a different style for you - which makes me wonder if anything new has happened?  It's very good, and very deep and poignant.  My prayers are with you and Tony.

I guess none of us know the meaning of goodbye until we've said it, lovely piece.

Sometimes you have to let go and move on,
But never let go of the memories.

Definitely says it all Liz.  Slaps one right in the face, doesn't it. And forever is so-o long.

One can only accept the memory and move on...
