Please don’t turn away…..when I tell you how I feel…
It’s not easy to explain what’s in my heart…
These secrets I’ve kept hidden are demanding I reveal,
all their meanings…
or they’ll blow my world apart…

How can I look at you and say the words you need to hear…
Inside me there’s an ache that’s much too strong…
I know what will happen, and the hurt is what I fear…
So,
I stay with you, while knowing that it’s wrong…

I really truly loved you, oh so very long ago…
Many years have passed, and things have changed…
Our dreams are gone, and way down deep,
I’m certain that you know…
There’s nothing left on which to place the blame…

So, let me look into your eyes, and read what’s on your face…
I think you know we’ll go our separate ways…
Our paths may cross again,
in life, or in some other place…
We’ve shared too much….there’ll always be a trace…

Please don’t turn away…..come here and hold me once again…
and let me feel that old familiar beat…
Let’s say goodbye and chalk it up to life, and part as friends…
When we look back…
this sorrow will be sweet…

Yes parting is such sweet sorrow and this is a very good reflection of a relationship where the two have drifted apart...I love the ending and the friendship philosophy.... no reason not to be able to look back on the relationship with a certain fondness for the good times....this poem is sad and tender loving all in the same work....I really enjoyed the read...it's a very open minded poem....have a nice day!.....ethome

ethome...
Thank you, my friend.....and thank you for seeing the meaning here. If two people share all that time, why should they end it by hating each other? I'd rather look back and smile.

Sunny,
parting is sorrowful, but I see the hidden smile remembering the good times.

Lil sis, This is one of your best, and you know I love your work anyway. This is amazing, and I love the graphics too. Sis this is one wonderfully written poem. Love this lets part as friends philosophy, beautiful work.
Take care

Believe me, I've tested the 'let's part as friends' philosophy, and it is always the best!! Thank you, big sis!!

I've been on both sides of this plea - let no one say it is easy on either. - but this is how I wish I'd said it, or heard it - as the case had been.

As time passes I have seen relationships differently...perhaps when you are not as emotionally attached the vision becomes clearer...my goal is not to place the blame and become angry...it is to understand my contribution to the relationship...to understand the part of me I am happy with and if I can discover mistakes I have made try to do better next time...I suppose this could be consided a sweet sorrow...James

Let's hear it for 'looking back and smiling' even if it is over daggers! We only get out of it what we choose to take with us. Choose the bad and that's what you'll get, choose the  good and the memories are great.

Well done,

Love never dies, though it changes a great deal.  Sometimes to continue that love you must separate, or else hate may evolve.  In such a situation, it is always best to leave when you can still be friends.  Terrific poem you have penned.

Yes........there have been many times that I wish I would have taken my own advice here!
Thank you, my friend.....always good to see you in reply!

~~~ James ~~~
Yes, that is exactly how I see it, too. Even if something doesn't turn out exactly as I should, I can still see a lesson learned, although sometimes I see it looking back in the distant future!  Thank you!
~~~ jwesley ~~~
So true........you get exactly what you want to get!  Thank you, my friend!

Love does indeed change, especially if there is a great deal of time involved. We, as humans, never stay constant. Much as most of us hate the thought of change, we are always doing it.

Parting is sorrowful, but if we can look back on the good times, then we retain the best of the relationship.  Hate and revenge don't do anything but eat up your soul.  Thank you, my dear friend!

Love always seems to leave a trace in our lives. But I guess it's up to us whether it's bitter, or forever sweet. Thank you, my friend!

Your words how true. Love never dies but it does change..sometimes not the way we wish it would. Hold on to the good memories and life will treat you well.

You got to get up every morning with a smile on your face
and show the world all the love in your heart
Then people are gonna treat you better
You're gonna find, yes you will
That your beautiful as you feel.~~~ Carol King
