Five Miles

I walked five miles in sand one day
Along a tropic shore
Just me and dunes and coconut palms
And God and nothing more

And as I plodded through the foamy
Waters of the sea
The warm waves kissed my feet as though
To soothe and comfort me

These moments brought a silent peace
And happiness within
So that my mind was void of thought
And soul was void of sin

The mesmerizing ocean sounds
Had put me in a trance
And in my eye came visions
Of my future in advance

I saw myself surrounded by
A love so sweet and pure
The love within a child’s heart
I’d never known before

I felt the deepening passion
Of a love that couldn’t be
Who watched me with a wanting eye
From far across the sea

But waves kicked up a sudden blow
As though to warn of pain
A sorrow that would pierce my heart
And there it would remain

Then waters calmed, and gazing out
Across the ocean’s crest
I saw completion of the whole
And tranquil happiness

It was not words God spoke to me
But signs of things to pass
The waters of the sea had etched
My life in crystal sands

Engraved forever in between
Beginning and the end
The line between the sea and sand
Around each coming bend

A permanence, but always shifting
Churning my insides
Scrolled on sands that move along
With ever changing tides

But somehow I became aware
That all would end up well
For forces of my strength would
Lift me up whene’er I fell

And peace would fill my spirit
And contentment fill my heart
For both had given of themselves
The most they could impart

My future was determined
And was molded by God’s hands
For it was clearly written
In the warm and crystal sands

And so in peace I waded
In the sea’s caressing foam
Then turned around the other way
And walked five miles home

Elizabeth I love the connection here between you and the creator and the calming affect it produced....to use the majesty of the sea as a portrait background is a marvelous touch. I really love the nostalgic way your thoughts go down in print..there's a real talent to that!! I'm so glad passions is here to help you overcome your own self stated shyness through the printed word...it is such a pleasure to have you here writing your words down...words so full of humanity and insight.
......my hats off to you again.....keep them coming....love your style......ethome

Lady Santos, this is perhaps one of the most beautiful poems of yours I have ever read. You continue to inspire with your "shy" words, all of which make us grateful that you grace us in the Blue Walls of Passions...

accordingly so, this belongs in everyone's library...virtually and otherwise...

soft hugs,

Karilea

Elizabeth, my friend~

Another petal from your pen
that falls so softly from within.
The grace and beauty of your heart begins
when these thoughts you graciously pen.

You spread them across the crystal sand
to shimmer with beauty oh, so grand !
As to remain in footprinted time
wandering across this heart of mine.

*As ALWAYS ...
the inspiration from your pen- takes me away !
Thank you, sweet poet.

Our life is already written all we have to do is live it to the fullest. Some good some bad but it is for us how we handle it.
I loved your words of walking on the beach. Sometimes being alone and letting God have the last say is best.
