Packed my bags on Sunday morning.
Stepped into the cool autumn dawn.
Heard a bird softly singing.
Closed my eyes and I was gone.

On the highway that leads to heaven.
Where the white lines go on forever.
I’m heading off to nowhere,
Blinded by the lights of fools that just don’t care.

Another town, just a different name.
Same old scenes, same old games.
Just another love, to pass the time.
Just one more kiss, then I’ll say goodbye.

It’s a long way home.
When you’re on your own.
It’s a long way home.

Packed my bags on Sunday morning.
Stepped into the cool autumn dawn.
Heard a church bell softly ringing.
Closed my eyes and I was home.

Got the longing too, especially after seeing that flock of Snow Geese go over this morning...

Well said my friend.

Ron -
This is a stunning poem, so visual, so heartfelt.  I loved it.

I loved the whole poem, though sad, these lines really grabbed me......

Ron, the lure of the open road sounds wonderful right about now. Luckily most of us have a home to go back to when travel tires us. Great write.

The road always seems inviting until you're wanting to go home. I enjoyed this, and again, am shaking my head in awe of your ability. Very nicely wrought.
