Careful of err I inch across
This frozen river
Holding my breath
As though it will lessen my weight on this fragile ground
Beneath me is a rage of tormented torrents
Relentless
Continual
A sliver of frosted veneer separates us
My mind floods with thoughts of abandon
Yet to have come so far
Midpoint between the shorelines
It would be easy to retreat over steps retraced
Though the urge to go on is stronger
I feel a slight bow, a yield to my presence
A blunder will be my quick demise
Cautiously I continue
I close my eyes in futile gesture
To diminish my mistaken plunge should it come
Yet I go forth, take the chance
And kiss her.

Ron- how sweet that first kiss can be and in the same sense its torture for the kisser... very well said.

Wonderful, Ron, the way you have accurately established those dreadfully uncertain but always exhilarating moments leading to that "other side"...you've done it again with this lovely metaphorical piece.
