Pop the Cork!

Here’s a toast to past emotions
To a love that could have been
Pop the cork and pour the sparkling
Tingling passion juice of sin

Here’s to us, the two great actors
Both pretending not to care
Letting love slip fast before us
Hearts in love but unaware

Raise the crystal champagne glasses
Glittering in candle’s glow
Here’s to love that should have been
And how it ended, I don’t know

One more sip to life’s temptations
You and I upon the stage
One more bow to rave ovations
Acting out our joy and rage

Drink to all the many times
We could have shared, we could have known
All the passion swept away
By pride that neither had outgrown

Here’s to you and me just sitting
In our favorite small cafe
One more sip to words unspoken
Words I needed so to say

Crystal goblets ring forever
Sprinkling fizz of bubbly wine
Here’s to you, my soul mate always
Cheers!, my friend, we still have time

Elizabeth,
I'll have a glass of hope with you, but sip it slowly to make it last. Passionate and stunning write.

My God Elizabeth!! I'm such a poetry fan of yours..I just love this one, it's definitely one of your best. I'm going to print this one out and file it. The theme has been the subject of so many unspoken mutual admiration love affairs...it never ends....it's human nature to be scared to death of rejection one fearing the other....letting the best thing in their life slip by....well, you've penned it here and with such eloquence I must add..I don't know if you're living it or not but either way it's marvellous work!! take care....ethome......

Elizabeth,
We all create our own actions
Devided into little fractions.
Your loved beyond your wildest dream
Go back and glean another gleam.
Masterful writing, Love Sy

Kethry, Thank you for the "stunning", and please join me for a sip

ethome, I think you are right . There are many relationships that end because of miscommunication or whatever. Thank you for your generous comments

Sy, Thank you for your kind remarks

Elizabeth, this is sooooooooo wonderful. Human nature is I guess, that some won't take a chance, but if you don't then you've lost. This is so superb, and a beautiful write.
Take care

By now you know I love your writing - but this one - goes far beyond anything I've read from you so far. I haven't got enough superlatives - and any I can think of are totally inadequate. Absolutely fantastic poem - in every way.

Ouch! Pride gets in the way of so much...intense emotions here, Elizabeth. I'm glad there's still time.
