A Year Ago Today

You were the he I loved all of my life
helping me carry my burdens and my strife.
I can still hear you, the stories you'd tell,
I remember the day that you fell.

I remember how you kept me warm
and how I was always safe from harm.
Now your light shines down on me
as you soar, your spirit is free.

I can't help but brush aside a tear or two
I remember the little things you would always do.
I can hear you say "You should have listened to me."
You were right, but I didn't always want to see.

I only wish you could see me now
Lord knows I wish there were someway, somehow.
I can only pray that you would be proud
as you watched from there upon your cloud.

It was a year ago, just this day
but I'm not sad, for you've found your way,
so I promise you now Dad, we have a date
I'll see you again.....
at heavens gate.

For my father, I miss him so.

On the wings of words our spirits fly, and our souls are free.

I'm sure  he's enjoying this poem right now. The love you have transends all barriers, earth and heaven. Be well

Marcy, knowing that they both smile makes all the pain in the world worth bearing for the short time it will be  until we can see their special smiles.  Bless you.

Gentle Spirit, I walk this path with you and I too remember this day from another forum. A year already...3 for me...it never gets easier, but the pain leaves and all the wonderful times rise up in memories.

This is a lovely poem with lovely thoughts and I especially like the ending.  It's always so hard on the ones left behind.

Sending hugs to you Gentle Spirit....I know how tough that day is, and I hope that knowing he's gotten his wings and is up there in heavenly beauty helps to bring a smile.  No doubt that right now he is just beaming with pride!!!  Bonnie
