She Remembers

She remembers dating
They were both so young
So hormone filled
His desire was attention enough

She remembers early marriage
She'd become passive
Her desire for children
Her memory still strong
Sufficient
He became almost mechanical

Her body still firm
Her skin still smooth
Imagination seemed
To have left his lovemaking
Fantasy often became her refuge

She remembers when conception stopped
More kids than hands
No more wanted
Contraceptive arguments:
"Like taking a shower with a raincoat"
"There's a danger of blood clots"
"Get yourself fixed!"
Nearly a stalemate

Life was cooler
Endearments decreased

She remembers finding evidence
She went through anger, and all the rest
She looked in the mirror
She wondered why

She remembers the divorce
What should have been loving
Was barely civil, sometimes vile
It was his solution she thought
But was it?

Things which matter most must never be at the mercy of things
which matter least.

Wilfred my friend you certainly are striking some chords. I heard this from many a female friend...It is a very real emotion you paint here. You've exceeded the challenge twice. (threes the charm...go for it)

Bill--I think many women can relate to this scene, unfortunately...you have penned a very real piece of life.

Wil,
as difficult as this issue is you've penned it so well it really touched a chord in me.

Marsha-
It comes from listening to a lot of people - attending consuling sessions - and John Gray seminars - so there's a little bit of a lot of people in it - thanks
I loved this challenge - posted another response to it in Adult

Seymour -
I thougt at least one really serious effort was called for - thanks ~S~

Ron Fox-
I did 'go for it' - check out adult - there's more. - Thanks

Martie - I suspect there's at least a little bit of everyone here-  Thanks

Kethry-
I tried not to be too painful - but felt facing reality - is important - Thanks
