Do You Think Of Me?

Do you think of me
in the early morning?
When the sunlight warms your face
and the wind caresses your ear,
do you feel the flush
I put upon your cheeks
and my heated breaths
as I whispered your name?

Do you think of me
throughout the day as you work?
When your fingers stroke
the smoothness of your keyboard,
do you recall the silkiness
of my skin
or the way we touched
each other
with our words
when our hands were unable to reach
across the distance between us?

Do you think of me
and remember
how every line
became a tender caress;
how each word
became a breath,
an embrace,
a kiss
as we made love
in syllables
and time stood still?

Do you think of me
in the still of the night
as you lay alone
and dream of better days?
Do my hands, once more,
sail the contours of your body
leaving you breathless in their wake?
Can you fell my gentle caresses,
even now,
as I reach out to you
from the depths of my dreams?

And as the memories
crash like waves,
their shores the recesses
of my battered heart and mind,
I can’t help but wonder...

After all this time,
do you think of me?

What lies behind us and lies before us are small matters compaired to what lies within us.

Hoot~
Thoughts written from the attic of recall.
So lovely and yet, so sad.
I'm so glad to have you sharing with us.

Just excellent!! what beautiful thoughts and reflections of the good times and how they affected the hearts of both and the closeness that captured the lovers....after separation how could such a wonderful part of one's life be totally forgotten....hence...do you think of me....yes, very good poetry!!

Haunting, Ruth.  I think a lot of online folks can relate to this experience on one level or another.

Nice to see you posting again too.  Seems like you have posted less lately.

Ruth,

This one tugs at my heart my friend.  So well written, but the undertones are so sad and bittsweet here.  Well written.

Ruth,
Hi there! How wonderful it is to see you and your wonderful poetry here! I don't get to see you as often. I hope all is well! This was a beautiful poem. It makes me want to go sit quietly with my thoughts now. Wondering is often torture enough.

Thanks everyone for your kind words on this one. This piece reflects a much darker period in my life although we all experience these thoughts from time to time....wonder if a past love ever thinks about us. Life can be cruel at times, but we've no choice but to move on and for a change it's wonderful to see at least this portion of my life going in a possitive direction.
Once more...thanks as always for your kindness and support of my writing. You've all taught me to believe in myself at a point where I never thought I may again.
Hugs

Ruth,
These lines so beautifully describe the challege so many people feel as they meet and fall in love via words on the computer screen...

the way we touched
each other
with our words
when our hands were unable to reach
across the distance between us?

Do you think of me
and remember
how every line
became a tender caress;
how each word
became a breath,
an embrace,
a kiss
as we made love
in syllables
and time stood still?

I know how deliriously happy you are with Rodger and yet to be able to look back and wonder if a past love still thinks of you in such a evocative manner simply speaks volumes for your gift as a writer.  I especially love the wonderful thought of "making love in syllables.  Kudos for this one Sister.
