If I Didn’t Have

If I didn’t have these eyes to peek
Then I should not have known the joy
Of cherub face and rosy cheek
And puckered lips of  baby boy

If I didn’t have these hands to feel
Then I should not have touched his skin
And known an angel's soft appeal
And warmth and tenderness within

If I didn’t have this sense of smell
Then I shouln’t know the sweet of  yawn
Of baby’s breaths that near him dwell
Like freshness of the early dawn

If I didn’t have these ears to hear
Most wondrous sounds upon the earth
I wouldn’t have known the cries so dear
The moment of a baby’s birth

How very beautiful my friend.  Isn't it just the best feeling in the world to hole a newborn?  Lovely write.

Holding my grandbabies is such a joy.
Thanks for reminding me of this privilege.
Great imagery.

You've breathed all the senses into this wonderful verse Liz, and captured the delight of a newborn so perfectly ... beautiful sentiments and visuals they brought to mind!

Best wishes,
/Kit

Very appealing to all the senses. Unfortunately, I have no children so I can't relate to it, but maybe someday that will happen.
