Someone long ago once said
“'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all”
It’s hard to hear these pithy words
The first time that you fall

The first time I think I truly loved
I was just eighteen. Blond and tall
A Nordic queen
All I had dreamed withal

The first wet kiss, the first true bliss
I thought I was in heaven
She went into a convent
I went into hell seven

Some years went by, how time does fly
Some sweet and growing years
I came close but not enough
Hardened, I shed few tears

Then the one I couldn’t have
Because she loved another
I thought we had a great thing
But she loved me like a brother

On rebound then I married soon
'Twas good but not perfection
She bore me two and so they grew
Before our union saw defection

So I learned that giving all
Could not assure a deep love
It doesn’t always grow into
Nor fit ‘just like a glove’

Again the years slipped quickly by
A cynosure was I
Many that I could have had
But just one had my eye

Was I too quick? No, I think not
I’d learned well from my past
I didn’t duplicate mistakes
Determined not to act fast

Before I ‘bit the bullet’
Six years we dated – on and off
We shared so much, endured so much
I thought, “We can pull it off”

Years we’ve had – and some were great
But life is a great teacher
Keeping love alive instate
Won’t work if you can’t reach her

So now I’m down to poetry
And it is my salvation
It helps me keep my sanity
I find love in its creation

You’ve read my poems know who I am
I think that I know me too
Now you’ve read my past as well
And what I want to do

I know I’ve found a love this time
Surpassing all the others
A closeness strong, it will last long
I know I’m not a ‘brother’

You’ve read my paeans to this love
I’ve never felt such kinship
We share each other’s aches and pains
From me I’ll not let her slip

I’ve learned to be me, don’t want to be free
To her I want to be bound
A love for the ages, a love for the sages
A love that will more than confound

I pray she’ll have me, her heart does grab me
My passion for her exceeds knowing
I’m down on my knees, praying she’ll hear my pleas
For my love for her just keeps on growing

Wil,
if this is true then I wish you well. If it's not then I wish you your dreams. Excellent write.

Dear Sir:

Your passions lie pretty among the pages
where thy truth will reside for many ages...

Sir Poet Bill* Your weave touched my heart
this fine morning...you pen your heart and
soul in everyline...I wish you the touch of
purest love and the happiness that you so
richly deserve...(hugs) my poet friend~

To write so openly from the heart
To express love and desires and dreams
To be read and understood
To love poetry
To have found a true love
You have it all

Wilfred,

This was absolutely stunning.  You have written from the heart and it shows through very clearly.  Beautiful work!!  May you both have many years of happiness together.
