this one might be a surprise
with words to lift and energize
it was a challenge I must confide
to get the words down to reside

this could have been a tale quixotic
but it will probably be a story psychotic
if you'll just help me, muse I implore
I'll write you songs forevermore

I tried not the rules to violate
so this poem I didn't annihilate
tried not to fill it with jargon
with my muse, I made a baragin

I'm almost done, muse I rejoice
to finish this poem I had no choice
words were hard to orchestrate
oh which ones to accentuate?

ok, I'm done, now bring my zither!
I'm ready to sing, muse, come hither

Bouts-rimes is French for "rhymed ends."  A bouts-rimes poem is created by one person's making up a list of rhymed words and giving it to another person (thanks, (I think!) to Lone Wolf for the words used here), who in turn writes the lines that end with those rhymes, in the same order in which they were given.

Bouts-rimes are said to have been invented by a seventeenth-century poet named Dulot.  They were very popular throughout the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, when they were known in English as "crambo."  In 1864 Alexandre Dumas, the author of The Three Musketeers invited all the poets of France to fill in the lines for a set of selected rhymes.  The next year he published the result: 350 poems by as many poets, all with the exact same rhymes.

Why not try this with a friend??

Tell the truth do you know how to play a zither?  You did a wonderful job on making the words all come together, congratulations.

I admire the poet who puts his brain to work......well done, Sven!

You are always full of surprise
For us to be energize
I confide
I wish to reside

I admit I am quixotic
And a bit psychotic
I implore
Don't leave me forevermore

I had to violate
In order to annihilate
My poem without jargon
I love your bargain

I can see you rejoice
In giving all the choice
Of poetic forms as you orchestrate
So beautifully, I will accentuate

Dancing to your zither
Here I am hither
