With a ghostly creak, the door does open
No one’s home is what I’m hoping.
I had seen the abandoned house from afar,
And couldn’t resist the door ajar.
So up squeaking steps of wood aged old,
I tiptoed across the sagging porch,
                 so brave and bold.
To see what’s inside would be a thrill,
I hear thump, thump, thump, oh heart be still.
“Hello”, I speak in broken voice,"Anyone home?"
“The door was open.” I say in an explaining tone.
Through cobweb rooms each step I take,
A grave mistake, I think this is I make.
A candle I find and begin to light,
But it’s blown out quickly by a whispered night.
The door it slams with a jarring bolt,
A breeze fills the room so icy cold,
A chain does rattle from a distant room,
As a laugh does echo with ghoulish gloom,
Footsteps quickly from upstairs depart,
Thump, thump, thump, this time not my heart.
The window is shut, I can’t get out,
“Please help me, Please! I begin to shout.
I race across the darkened room,
Now for sure I’ve met my doom.
A shadow moves across my eyes,
Into the corner I fall and hide.
Then suddenly a light does appear,
I hear my mother’s voice in my ear.
“It’s a bad dream my son”, as she pats my head.
“Too much candy before you’ve gone to bed.”

Fantastic, Ron! Chilling dream!! Just one tiny suggestion...I'd take dream out of the title so as not to give away the surpise ending...Whatcha think?
