“DON’T GO OUT IN THE DARK”

by

Bill Charles

It was a dark dreary night, drearier than that,
with a silvery full moon,
all I can say is drat…
Monsters were out prowling, behind every tree,
witches and green goblins,
after you and me!

The darkness was alive, with all things unknown,
what was Bill doing here,
out here all alone?
Was I just not thinking, or was I a fool,
going for a walk,
or just trying to be cool?

I tip toed by the tree, and I heard something there,
and the back of my neck,
I could feel all the hair…
It was standing up straight, never did that before,
but I said, “Oh well,
I can’t be a fraidy cat anymore”…

I turned and I looked, and was startled by the sight,
a ghostly creature floating,
there in the night!
My knees starting knocking, and my teeth chattered,
here was a real ghost that I met,
and it really mattered!

I yelled at it, at the same time it yelled at me,
we both scared each other,
from what I could see!
He ran that-away, and I went this-away, down the road,
running as fast as my feet would go,
all the way home!

Well I was almost there, when out of the dark,
I bumped into this witch,
just outside of the park!
Instantly frozen was I, couldn’t move a limb,
at that very moment didn’t know,
if my name was Bill, or Tim!

When I unfroze, from that terrible scary ordeal,
I at least made it home,
and that was ideal…
I finally slammed the door shut, locked it too,
turned off all the lights,
and bid all night creatures adieu!

I ran up to the bathroom, and there I came unglued,
I dropped my drawers,
to get rid of what I had accrued…
After sitting for a spell, I felt a lot better and thought,
the reason I got so scared,
was because I almost got caught!

So, what I found out is, don’t go out at night to play,
because all of those creatures,
being scary is their forte…
And don’t forget the golden rule, or they will leave their mark,
just you all remember,
“Don’t Go Out In The Dark”!

Well, I really enjoyed this, I wasn't here last Halloween and I love these colors!
